Buizel is technically a pre-evolution of Floatzel, but it holds its own in formats where Eviolite is allowed. Swift Swim doubles its Speed in rain, adding extra value. Only weak to Electric and Grass. Known as the Sea Weasel Pokemon.
Speed and Attack carry most of Buizel's stat budget. Sp. Def's the obvious dump stat. Common in the wild and yields 1 Speed EV. Follows a medium-fast 1M XP curve.
It spins its two tails like a screw to propel itself through water. The tails also slice clinging seaweed.
Buizel Weakness
GoodType-wise, Buizel takes extra damage from Electric and Grass. 4 resistances help offset the weaknesses. Just 2 weak spots to worry about, which keeps teambuilding straightforward.
- Fairy type does not exist — Dragon has fewer checks
- Physical / Special split now per-move (introduced Gen IV)
One evolution ahead. Buizel grows into Floatzel through a straightforward two-stage chain. A massive partner pool for breeding via two egg groups. Eggs are average hatch time. Evolving adds up to 165 stat points total.
How to Evolve
Breed Buizel easily with 131 breeding partners from the Ground and Water1 egg groups. Pass egg moves like Baton Pass, Double Slap, Fury Cutter and 5 more to offspring.
Waterfall is the safe click most turns. Choice Scarf locks Buizel into it but rewards with speed patching through item lock. Adamant nature and max Attack and Speed EVs maximize that first hit. Swiftswim helps on the margins.

Recommended Teammates
The egg pool carries weight here. Baton Pass and Double Slap aren't available any other way for Buizel, and they meaningfully change what it threatens. Stack those on top of Surf and Waterfall for solid options.

Buizel's scattered across 4 spots in early-game routes with high spawn rates. Check the list below for the closest location to wherever you are in the game. This one's quick.
Best Locations
You can find Buizel through 4 walking encounters at Lv. 9-25. The list is sorted by game progression, so the earliest accessible spots show up first.
Buizel is meant to evolve into Floatzel. At 330 BST, the stats aren't there for competitive play yet. Pre-evolution Pokemon rarely hold up against fully evolved threats.
Buizel evolves into Floatzel at level 26. Buizel is the base form of this evolutionary line.
Swift Swim is what you want on Buizel. Every competitive set worth running is built with that ability in mind. The alternatives (Water Veil) work on paper but Swift Swim is what makes Buizel worth using.
Base 85 Speed is workable — faster than some, slower than many. On offense, Buizel is a physical attacker with base 65 Attack. Defensively? Fragile — can't afford to take many hits.
Buizel appears in 12 games, including Platinum, HeartGold & SoulSilver, and Diamond & Pearl.
Available in 12 titles since its debut in Diamond & Pearl, Buizel spans 6 generations of Pokemon games. It's accessible through catching or hatching as a base form in a solid number of games.
