Buizel is technically a pre-evolution of Floatzel, but it holds its own in formats where Eviolite is allowed. Swift Swim doubles its Speed in rain, adding extra value. Only weak to Electric and Grass. Known as the Sea Weasel Pokemon.

Speed and Attack carry most of Buizel's stat budget. Sp. Def's the obvious dump stat. Common in the wild and yields 1 Speed EV. Follows a medium-fast 1M XP curve.

It spins its two tails like a screw to propel itself through water. The tails also slice clinging seaweed.

Buizel Weakness

Good

Type-wise, Buizel takes extra damage from Electric and Grass. 4 resistances help offset the weaknesses. Just 2 weak spots to worry about, which keeps teambuilding straightforward.

The egg pool carries weight here. Aqua Ring and Aqua Tail aren't available any other way for Buizel, and they meaningfully change what it threatens. Stack those on top of Aqua Tail and Surf for solid options.

  • Buizel is meant to evolve into Floatzel. At 330 BST, the stats aren't there for competitive play yet. Pre-evolution Pokemon rarely hold up against fully evolved threats.

  • Buizel's biggest threats include Manectric (Electric) and Roserade (Grass), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Only 2 weaknesses means fewer dedicated counters to worry about.

  • Buizel evolves into Floatzel at level 26. Buizel is the base form of this evolutionary line.

  • Swift Swim is what you want on Buizel. Every competitive set worth running is built with that ability in mind. The alternatives (Water Veil) work on paper but Swift Swim is what makes Buizel worth using.

  • Base 85 Speed is workable — faster than some, slower than many. On offense, Buizel is leaning toward the physical side (base 65 Attack). Defensively? Fragile — can't afford to take many hits.

  • Buizel appears in 12 games, including Platinum, HeartGold & SoulSilver, and Diamond & Pearl.

Available in 12 titles since its debut in Diamond & Pearl, Buizel spans 6 generations of Pokemon games. It's accessible through catching or hatching as a base form in a solid number of games.
