Is Aerodactyl Good in Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl Playthrough?

Fossil revival. Rock/Flying with excellent Speed and decent Attack. Handles Aaron's bugs and Flint's Rapidash. AbilityRock Head eliminates Take Down recoil. Fast enough to outrun most of the E4. Solid if you get it before the endgame.

BDSP Aerodactyl Best Moveset

Fell from S-tier as 130 Speed and 105 Attack behind Rock/Flying TermStab couldn't compensate for 80/65/75 bulk in a format that hits harder. AbilityRock Head removes recoil from MoveBrave Bird and AbilityPressure doubles PP cost. Hidden AbilityUnnerve blocks berries. The moveset still outspeeds almost everything but C-tier reflects how raw Speed isn't enough without the power to match.

Breeding's the move. Assurance and Curse give Aerodactyl options it can't learn any other way, and coverage across 7 types already covers a decent range on top of Stone Edge and Fly. The egg moves push it further.

Aerodactyl Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl Guide

  • For Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, we rate Aerodactyl B-Tier: a solid option in Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl for the right team. At 515 BST, it fits the sweeper role. Earthquake with Wacanberry is the standard set.

  • Mega Evolution isn't available in Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, but Aerodactyl does have a Mega form in Gen 6-7 games (X/Y, ORAS, Sun/Moon). Mega Aerodactyl hits 615 BST.

  • In Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, Aerodactyl's biggest threats include Gyarados (Water), Raikou (Electric), and Lapras (Ice), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Rock and Steel-type attackers are also a problem. With 5 weakness types, most competitive teams carry at least one counter.

  • Rock Head is the go-to ability for Aerodactyl. It protects against recoil damage. Its hidden ability Unnerve can work in specific setups. Pressure is the other option. Pick based on what your team needs.

  • Base 130 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. On offense, Aerodactyl is a physical attacker with base 105 Attack. Defensively? Enough bulk to take a hit or two. Best used as a sweeper.

Game Availability

Since debuting in Red & Blue, Aerodactyl has appeared in 20 titles over 10 generations. Along the way, it received a Mega form in Generation 6, keeping it relevant across different competitive metas.
