Pokemon Go Gyms are Locations players can visit and battle other players of the opposite team, or train at gyms of the same team. Players can earn bonus Pokecoins and Stardust from having multiple Pokemon Go Gyms in their control with their pokemon in it.
How Do Pokemon Go Gyms Work?
Pokemon Go Gym Battling
When you find a Pokemon Go Gym under the control of a different team than your own, You can battle it and eventually take it over.
Every time you win a battle against an enemy gym it will reduce its prestige.
Once the gym’s Prestige reaches zero you can take over the gym and claim it for your team (Instinct, Valor, Mystic).
Pokemon Go Gym Training
When a gym is under the control of your team, you can train at this gym and increase it “Prestige”.
This involves using one Pokémon to fight the gym, instead of the standard 6 Pokémon used when battling an enemy gym.
Training Gym Strategy: Place a Weak/Low CP Pokémon in the gym and repeatedly Win/Train at the gym and raise its prestige for additional Pokemon slots.
Raising a gyms prestige will allow you and other players on your team to place more Pokemon within it.
Claiming A Pokemon Go Gym & Placing A Pokemon In It
After you have defeated a gym enough times and reduced it’s prestige to “0”. You can place your Pokémon in it and earn rewards.
Select the icon in the bottom left corner of gym screen, will allow you to choose your pokemon you want to be placed at the gym.
Important: Your Pokemon Must Be Fully Healed before it can be placed in a Pokemon Go Gym.
Pokemon Go Gym Rewards
placing a Pokémon in your inventory at a gym to defend it, you will then be rewarded 10 PokéCoins and 500 Stardust every 21 or so hours, which can be claimed from the Shop menu ONCE EVERY 21 HOURS – providing your Pokémon hasn’t been knocked out of that gym.
You can store up to 10 Pokémon at gyms at any one time, and you’ll get them back once they are removed. They will appear back in your Pokémon inventory with 1 Hp, requiring them to be healed before they can be used again.
