How to Get Scizor in FireRed & LeafGreen
Scizor uses the same Metal Coat trade mechanic as Steelix. Grab a Scyther from the Celadon Game Corner prize list, equip a Metal Coat, then trade it to another player for the evolution. On original GBA cartridges the trade uses a Link Cable or the Wireless Adapter. On the 2026 Nintendo Switch re-release, two Switch consoles trade over Switch local wireless — no accessory required.
Catch Scyther at any of these 2 spots to eventually evolve into Scizor.

Scizor Weakness
Scizor is weak to Fire. Watch out for Fire attacks, those deal 4x damage. On the flip side, it's immune to Poison-type moves entirely. It resists 9 types, so it can switch into a lot of moves safely. With 70 HP and balanced defenses, Scizor can afford to eat a neutral hit or two.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 4x (Critical) | Fire |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Normal, Ice, Psychic, Bug, Ghost, Dragon, Dark, Steel |
| 0.25x (Resist) | Grass |
| 0x (Immune) | Poison |
- Dark and Steel types added — Fairy does not exist yet
- Moves are Physical or Special based on type, not per move

Scizor FireRed & LeafGreen Guide
- Is Scizor exclusive to FireRed or LeafGreen?
Scizor is exclusive to Pokemon FireRed. LeafGreen players have to trade for one.

See the Locations section above for where to find Scizor in FireRed.
How to trade in FireRed and LeafGreen
GBA cartridges: You need a Game Boy Advance Game Link Cable and both players' FireRed/LeafGreen cartridges. Trade at the Cable Club on the 2nd floor of any Pokemon Center, which opens up shortly after Oak gives you the Pokedex.Nintendo Switch (2026 release): Trading uses local wireless only. There is no online play, and no Nintendo Switch Online subscription is required. Both players head to the Pokemon Wireless Club on the 2nd floor of any Pokemon Center, then step into a Union Room. Up to four other players can join. Available once you have the Pokedex from Professor Oak. Scizor is obtained by trade-evolving Scyther. Catch or evolve a Scyther first, then trade. Trade needs a Game Boy Advance link cable and a second GBA running another Gen 3 game (FireRed, LeafGreen, Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald). Trade Scyther to a friend, then have them trade it back. The 2026 Switch re-release supports the same trade through local wireless on the Pokemon Center 2F Wireless Club, with no cables required. The Metal Coat must be held during the trade. In FireRed and LeafGreen, Metal Coat is post-game only. Pick it up as a hidden item near Memorial Pillar in the Sevii Islands or win it as a prize for clearing Knockout Mode in Trainer Tower on Seven Island. Both spots unlock after entering the Hall of Fame and getting the Rainbow Pass from Celio on One Island. You can also bring one over from Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald.
