Almost nobody uses Surskit in battle. It exists to evolve into Masquerain, which is a completely different story. Get it there and you won't regret it. Only weak to Electric, Flying, and Rock. Known as the Pond Skater Pokemon.
Speed and Sp. Def carry most of Surskit's stat budget. Attack's the obvious dump stat. Easy to catch and yields 1 Speed EV. Follows a medium-fast 1M XP curve.
They usually live on ponds, but after an evening shower, they may appear on puddles in towns.
Surskit Weakness
GoodSurskit's Bug/Water typing leaves it vulnerable to Electric, Flying, and Rock moves. 5 resistances help offset the weaknesses. Standard number of weaknesses for the Bug/Water typing.
- Dark and Steel types added — Fairy does not exist yet
- Moves are Physical or Special based on type, not per move
One evolution ahead. Surskit grows into Masquerain through a straightforward two-stage chain. A decent partner pool for breeding via two egg groups. Eggs are quick to hatch. The evolved forms gain up to 185 total stats over Surskit.
How to Evolve
Breed Surskit easily with 37 breeding partners from the Bug and Water1 egg groups. Pass egg moves like Foresight, Hydro Pump, Mind Reader and 2 more to offspring.
Leftovers and Swiftswim form the backbone. Surskit invests max HP and Sp. Atk EVs to play its attacker role properly, and Hardy nature pushes higher. Giga Drain handles the heavy lifting on offense. Utility options rounds it out.

You'll want to breed for Foresight and Hydro Pump on Surskit. These egg moves aren't just nice to have. Combined with STAB from Hydro Pump and Bubble Beam, they expand what Surskit can actually threaten in practice.

Surskit is meant to evolve into Masquerain. At 269 BST, the stats aren't there for competitive play yet. Pre-evolution Pokemon rarely hold up against fully evolved threats.
Surskit evolves into Masquerain at level 22. Surskit is the base form of this evolutionary line.
Swift Swim is what you want on Surskit. Every competitive set worth running is built with that ability in mind. The alternatives (Rain Dish) work on paper but Swift Swim is what makes Surskit worth using.
At base 65 Speed, it won't be moving first often. On offense, Surskit is leaning toward the special side (base 50 Sp. Atk). Defensively? Fragile — can't afford to take many hits.
Surskit appears in 14 games, including Ruby & Sapphire, FireRed & LeafGreen, and Emerald.
