Skiploom sits in the middle of its evolution line — stronger than Hoppip but not yet at full power. Most trainers push through to Jumpluff as fast as possible. Ground moves can't touch it, which offsets the 5 weaknesses somewhat. Known as the Cottonweed Pokemon.
Nothing fancy in Skiploom's spread. It leans mixed with Speed out front. And you'll get 2 Speed EVs per KO for it. Follows a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve.
It spreads its petals to absorb sunlight. It also floats in the air to get closer to the sun.
The bloom on top of its head opens and closes as the temperature fluctuates up and down.
Skiploom Weakness
VulnerableSkiploom is weak to Ice, Fire, Poison, Flying, and Rock-type moves. Watch out for Ice attacks, those deal 4x damage. On the flip side, it's immune to Ground-type moves entirely.
- Dark and Steel types added — Fairy does not exist yet
- Moves are Physical or Special based on type, not per move
Skiploom sits between Hoppip and Jumpluff in this three-stage line. Not the final form yet. For breeding, average hatch time with a decent partner pool via two egg groups. Speed has grown the most so far (+30), but there's still another 120 stats to gain in the final evolution.
How to Evolve
Breed with Skiploom to get Hoppip eggs easily using 27 partners from the Fairy and Plant egg groups. Notable egg moves include Amnesia, Confusion, Double-Edge and 4 more.

Egg moves make a real difference. Skiploom gets Amnesia and Confusion exclusively through breeding, filling gaps that TMs and level-up can't touch. Normal and Psychic coverage rounds out the picture alongside Solar Beam and Giga Drain.

You're catching Hoppip first, not Skiploom. Hoppip appears at solid rates in the encounters below. The step cards map the full 2-stage line with evolution methods between each stage.
How to Obtain Skiploom in FireRed & LeafGreen
To get Skiploom, start by catching Hoppip through surfing and walking encounters at Lv. 5-16. The chain covers 1 catchable stage before reaching the final form.

Step 2Skiploom ✓
At 340 BST, Skiploom is firmly in pre-evolution territory. Evolve it into Jumpluff before bringing it to any serious fight.
Skiploom's biggest threats include Lapras (Ice), Charizard (Fire), and Gengar (Poison), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Lapras is the most dangerous since Ice moves deal 4x damage. Flying and Rock-type attackers are also a problem. With 5 weakness types, most competitive teams carry at least one counter.
Skiploom gets Chlorophyll, Leaf Guard, and Infiltrator. But Chlorophyll is the one that matters — it's the centerpiece of every viable set. Build around that.
Skiploom is a mixed attacker — base 45 Attack and 45 Sp. Atk. But the speed tells the real story — base 80 Speed is workable — faster than some, slower than many.
Skiploom appears in 16 games, including Gold & Silver, Crystal, and Ruby & Sapphire.
Debuting in Gold & Silver, Skiploom appears in 16 games across 8 generations. A reliable presence in most mainline games, typically found through catching or hatching as a base form.
