Pidgey sits at the start of its evolution line — not yet at full power, but that changes fast. Most trainers push through to Pidgeot as fast as possible. An original Gen 1 pick. Ground and Ghost moves can't touch it, and only 3 types hit it super-effectively.
An unusually even spread gives Pidgey flexibility. Speed barely edges ahead. But Sp. Atk isn't far off. Easy to catch and follows a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve. Yields 1 Speed EV.
It usually hides in tall grass. Because it dislikes fighting, it protects itself by kicking up sand.
Common in grassy areas and forests, it is very docile and will chase off enemies by flapping up sand.
Pidgey Weakness
GoodPidgey is weak to Electric, Ice, and Rock-type moves. On the flip side, it's immune to Ground and Ghost-type moves entirely.
- Dark and Steel types added — Fairy does not exist yet
- Moves are Physical or Special based on type, not per move
- Special stat split into Sp.Atk and Sp.Def
Three stages ahead. Pidgey grows into Pidgeotto, then pushes on to Pidgeot. Check the evolution methods below. For breeding, quick to hatch with a decent partner pool via one egg group. Evolving adds up to 228 stat points total.
How to Evolve
Breed Pidgey easily with 19 breeding partners from the Flying egg group. Pass egg moves like Feint Attack, Foresight, Pursuit and 1 more to offspring.
Best Build
Gen 2 build content has limited support (no abilities).

Breeding opens up real options for Pidgey. Feint Attack and Foresight come exclusively from egg moves, and they're worth the effort. The rest of the kit covers basics through Fly and Wing Attack and Ground and Steel coverage.

Pidgey is meant to evolve into Pidgeotto. At 251 BST, the stats aren't there for competitive play yet. Pre-evolution Pokemon rarely hold up against fully evolved threats.
Pidgey evolves into Pidgeotto at level 18. Pidgey is the base form in a 3-stage evolutionary line.
At base 56 Speed, it won't be moving first often. On offense, Pidgey is leaning toward the physical side (base 45 Attack). Defensively? Fragile — can't afford to take many hits.
Pidgey appears in 19 games, including Yellow, Red & Blue, and Gold & Silver.
One of the original 151, Pidgey has appeared in 19 games — most mainline games. From Red & Blue through the latest titles, it's rarely been left out of a regional Pokedex.
