Fire trade evolution from Magmar via Magmarizer. High Special Attack tears through Molayne's entire Steel E4. The move tutors add MoveThunder Punch for Water coverage. If you can trade for it, Magmortar is one of the most dangerous Fire-types available.

How to Get Magmortar in Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon
The chain to Magmortar requires a trade evolution through a trade. Catch Magby at decent rates and level through the stages, but line up the trade first. The rest of the chain runs on levels alone.
How to Obtain Magmortar in USUM
To get Magmortar, start by catching Magby through walking encounters at Lv. 16-19. The chain covers 2 catchable stages before reaching the final form.
Magmortar Weakness
Magmortar's Fire typing leaves it vulnerable to Water, Ground, and Rock. It resists 6 types, so it can switch into a lot of moves safely. Magmortar's special bulk (base 95 Sp.Def) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.

Magmortar Evolutions
Magmortar evolved from Magby's chain using a trade. It's a non-standard trigger, so check the details below. Breed this form to get Magby eggs (average hatch time). The evolution from Magby pushed Magmortar to 540 total stats. Sp.Atk saw the largest single gain at +55. View every chain in the Evolution Chart.
How to Evolve
Breeding
Breed with Magmortar to get Magby eggs using 56 partners from the Humanshape egg group. Notable egg moves include Barrier, Belch, Belly Drum and 11 more.

125 Sp. Atk at 83 Speed with AbilityVital Spirit preventing sleep as a hidden ability. Fire TermStab at real special power with MoveThunderbolt and MoveFocus Blast for coverage. But 83 Speed falls just short of the critical benchmarks. The moveset hits hard enough to threaten but acts after too many key targets. C-tier.

STAB runs through Overheat and Flare Blitz for the basics, but Magmortar's real strength is the 11-type coverage spread. Poison and Electric hit common defensive types, and the movepool keeps going.

Magmortar takes down its enemies by shooting fireballs, which burn them to a blackened crisp. It avoids this method when hunting prey.
Magmortar Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon Guide
In Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon, Magmortar works as a wallbreaker with 540 BST behind it. C-Tier on our list: a niche pick in Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon's meta. Thunderbolt with Assault Vest is the standard set.
In Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon, watch for Milotic (Water), Golem (Ground), and Aerodactyl (Rock) when using Magmortar. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB.
No. Magmortar is not catchable in the wild. It only comes from trade-evolving Magmar. Trade needs a Game Boy Advance link cable and a second GBA running another Gen 3 game (FireRed, LeafGreen, Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald). Trade Magmar to a friend, then have them trade it back. The 2026 Switch re-release supports the same trade through local wireless on the Pokemon Center 2F Wireless Club, with no cables required. The Magmarizer must be held during the trade. Bring one over from a sibling Gen 3 game if needed.
Flame Body has a 30% chance of burning attacking Pokémon on contact. That's the one you want on Magmortar. Vital Spirit is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses.
Magmortar is a special attacker with base 125 Sp. Atk. Enough bulk to take a hit or two, too. Speed tells the real story. Base 83 Speed is workable. Faster than some, slower than many. Fits the wallbreaker role.
Game Availability
Since Diamond & Pearl, Magmortar has been in 13 games. Requiring a trade evolution to obtain means it's consistently available but requires more effort than simply catching it in the wild.
