Stats & Training

Raw HP carries Kangaskhan's bulk more than the defenses do. Sp. Atk barely registers. But that HP pool covers for it. A tough to catch Parent Pokemon that yields 2 HP EVs on a medium-fast 1M XP curve.

It raises its offspring in its belly pouch. It lets the baby out to play only when it feels safe.

Kangaskhan Weakness

Kangaskhan's Normal typing leaves it vulnerable to Fighting. It shrugs off Ghost-type attacks completely. With 105 HP and balanced defenses, Kangaskhan can afford to eat a neutral hit or two.

X & Y Kangaskhan Best Moveset

Kangaskhan doesn't rely on pure speed. Leftovers gives it passive recovery each turn to stay healthy, and Jolly nature still pushes offense. Fakeout and the remaining moves keep the pressure on while max Attack and Speed EVs balance power and survivability.

Moves

STAB runs through Giga Impact and Hyper Beam for the basics, but Kangaskhan's real strength is the 13-type coverage spread. Dark and Dragon hit common defensive types, and the movepool keeps going.

Kangaskhan Guide

  • For X & Y, we rate Kangaskhan C-Tier: a niche pick in X & Y's meta. At 490 BST, the stats are spread pretty evenly. Fakeout with Leftovers is the standard set.

  • In X & Y, Kangaskhan can Mega Evolve into Mega Kangaskhan. That's 590 BST, up from 490. The stat redistribution often changes its best role. Mega Stone required, one per battle.

  • In X & Y, watch for Hitmonlee (Fighting) when using Kangaskhan. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Only 1 weakness means fewer dedicated counters to worry about.

  • Early Bird makes sleep pass twice as quickly. That's the one you want on Kangaskhan. Inner Focus is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses. Scrappy works too if your team needs something different.

  • Base 90 Speed is workable. Faster than some, slower than many. On offense, Kangaskhan is a physical attacker with base 95 Attack. Defensively? Enough bulk to take a hit or two.

Game Availability

Since debuting in Red & Blue, Kangaskhan has appeared in 20 titles over 10 generations. Along the way, it received a Mega form in Generation 7, keeping it relevant across different competitive metas.
