Chien-Pao's built around physical offense. Speed leads the charge, Sp. Def pays for it. Very hard to catch, worth 3 Speed EVs. Follows a slow 1.25M XP grind.
This Pokémon can control 100 tons of fallen snow. It plays around innocently by leaping in and out of avalanches it has caused.
The hatred of those who perished by the sword long ago has clad itself in snow and become a Pokémon.
Type-wise, Chien Pao takes extra damage from Fighting, Fire, Bug, Rock, Steel, and Fairy. Watch out for Fighting attacks, those deal 4x damage. Psychic moves do nothing thanks to a full immunity.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 4x (Critical) | Fighting |
| 2x (Weak) | Fire, Bug, Rock, Steel, Fairy |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Ice, Ghost, Dark |
| 0x (Immune) | Psychic |

How to Evolve
Breeding
One boost from Swords Dance and Chien Pao gets dangerous fast. The Adamant nature targets max Attack and Speed, and Swordofruin backs the whole approach. Iciclecrash and the remaining moves handle most of what's left standing.

Chien-Pao is a fixed encounter, not a random spawn. Walk up to it, interact, and the battle starts immediately. Head to West Province (Area One) when your team is ready for the fight.
Best Locations to Catch Chien-Pao in Scarlet & Violet
Chien-Pao is a Legendary Pokemon rated S-Tier. At 570 BST, it hits hard. It excels as a sweeper. Base 135 Speed is where it shines.
Chien-Pao's biggest threats include Machamp (Fighting), Charizard (Fire), and Pinsir (Bug), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Machamp is the most dangerous since Fighting moves deal 4x damage. Rock, Steel, and Fairy-type attackers are also a problem. With 6 weakness types, most competitive teams carry at least one counter.
Sword Of Ruin is the go-to ability for Chien-Pao. It lowers Defense of all Pokémon except itself. It's Chien-Pao's only ability.
Chien-Pao fills the sweeper role. It's leaning toward the physical side (base 120 Attack). Base 135 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.
Best way to handle Chien-Pao: Priority moves (Mach Punch, Aqua Jet, Ice Shard) bypass its speed. Bulky walls that resist its STAB also shut it down.
Chien Pao has appeared in 1 games since Scarlet & Violet, spanning 2 generations. As a Legendary, it's typically a one-per-save encounter tied to the story or post-game content.
