Azurill is a baby Pokemon from Gen 3 — it can't hold its own in battle yet. The payoff is Azumarill, which is where the real competitive value lives. Worth raising if you need one on your team. Ghost and Dragon moves can't touch it, and only 2 types hit it super-effectively.
HP and Defense carry most of Azurill's stat budget. Attack's the obvious dump stat. Common in the wild and yields 1 HP EV. Follows a fast 800K XP curve.
The ball on Azurill’s tail bounces like a rubber ball, and it’s full of the nutrients the Pokémon needs to grow.
Although Azurill are normally docile, an angry one will swing around the big ball on its tail and try to smash its opponents.
Azurill Weakness
ExcellentType-wise, Azurill takes extra damage from Poison and Steel. Ghost and Dragon moves do nothing thanks to a full immunity. Thick Fat reduces Fire/Ice damage, further improving the defensive spread.
This is the baby stage. Azurill grows into Marill by leveling up. Want more? Breed the adults. Baby Pokemon sit in the Undiscovered egg group. Evolving adds up to 230 stat points total.
How to Evolve
Huge Power gives Azurill passive value while it walls. Sassy nature boosts Sp. Def, max HP and Sp. Def EVs maximize the slow wall profile, and Eviolite keeps it in the game.

Recommended Teammates
The egg pool carries weight here. Aqua Jet and Belly Drum aren't available any other way for Azurill, and they meaningfully change what it threatens. Stack those on top of Hyper Voice and Uproar for solid options.

Finding Azurill at moderate rates takes patience. 18 spots are available in early-game routes, but the rate difference between them matters. Lock in the top one from the sorted list below.
Best Locations
Azurill's encounter pool splits between Shield and Sword. You've got 18 walking spots at Lv. 13-18 total, but your version determines which ones actually show up.
Azurill is meant to evolve into Marill. At 190 BST, the stats aren't there for competitive play yet. Pre-evolution Pokemon rarely hold up against fully evolved threats.
Azurill evolves into Marill by leveling up. Azurill is the base form in a 3-stage evolutionary line.
Huge Power is what you want on Azurill. Every competitive set worth running is built with that ability in mind. The alternatives (Thick Fat, Sap Sipper) work on paper but Huge Power is what makes Azurill worth using.
Base 20 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. On offense, Azurill is leaning toward the physical side (base 20 Attack). Defensively? Fragile — can't afford to take many hits.
Azurill appears in 15 games, including Ruby & Sapphire, FireRed & LeafGreen, and Emerald.
Available in 15 titles since its debut in Ruby & Sapphire, Azurill spans 7 generations of Pokemon games. It's accessible through catching or hatching as a base form in most mainline games.
