The stat bars tell the story: Defense carries everything and HP's dead weight. But this Shield Pokemon still yields 1 Defense EV per fight on a standard growth curve.
Much remains unknown about this Pokémon, as few have ever seen it. However, we know that it is calm and dislikes conflict, and it enjoys polishing its face against trees and rocks.
Type-wise, Shieldon takes extra damage from Fighting, Ground, and Water. Watch out for Fighting and Ground attacks, those deal 4x damage. Poison moves do nothing thanks to a full immunity. It resists 8 types, so it can switch into a lot of moves safely. Shieldon's physical bulk (base 118 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 4x (Critical) | Fighting, Ground |
| 2x (Weak) | Water |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Ice, Psychic, Bug, Rock, Dragon, Fairy |

Shieldon is the base form in a two-stage line leading to Bastiodon. Check the evolution method below. Plenty of partners for breeding via one egg group. Eggs are slow to hatch. Evolving adds up to 145 stat points total. View every chain in the Evolution Chart.
How to Evolve
The build centers on Stealth Rock and survivability. Eviolite means a bulk boost that only works before full evolution, and spread EVs give Shieldon the bulk to set up repeatedly. Sturdy adds another layer of staying power.

Moves
Most of Shieldon's flexibility comes from TMs. Same-type output runs through Steel Beam and Stone Edge, but Normal and Ice and the rest of the TM pool push it from predictable to genuinely threatening.

The offense anchors on Steel Beam and Iron Tail, with Normal and Ground coverage and more adding reach. It's a workable movepool for Shieldon that handles most situations. Earth Power and Double-Edge give it enough punch where it matters.
The egg pool carries weight here. Body Slam and Counter aren't available any other way for Shieldon, and they meaningfully change what it threatens. Stack those on top of Iron Tail and Stone Edge for solid options.

Best Locations to Catch Shieldon in Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon
At 350 BST, Shieldon is firmly in pre-evolution territory. Evolve it into Bastiodon before bringing it to any serious fight.
Shieldon's biggest threats include Blaziken (Fighting) and Swampert (Ground), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Blaziken is the most dangerous since Fighting moves deal 4x damage. Water-type attackers are also a problem. At base 30 Speed, Shieldon won't outrun any of these threats so switching to a resist is usually the safer play.
Sturdy is the go-to ability for Shieldon. It prevents being KOed from full HP, leaving 1 HP instead. Its hidden ability Soundproof can work in specific setups.
Shieldon is leaning toward the physical side (base 42 Attack). Enough bulk to take a hit or two, too. Speed tells the real story. Base 30 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go.
For a casual playthrough, Shieldon works as a placeholder. Rock/Steel coverage is useful early. The real payoff is Bastiodon. That's where the stats start mattering.
Debuting in Diamond & Pearl, Shieldon appears in 12 games across 7 generations. A reliable presence in a solid number of games, typically found through catching or hatching as a base form.
