Phantump is technically a pre-evolution of Trevenant, but it holds its own in formats where Eviolite is allowed. Natural Cure clears status conditions when it switches out, adding extra value. Normal and Fighting moves can't touch it, which offsets the 5 weaknesses somewhat.

Phantump's spread isn't flashy. Attack leads, Speed trails, 0 stats clear the bar. Common in the wild and worth 1 Attack EV, on a medium-fast 1M XP curve.

Egg moves make a real difference. Phantump gets Disable and Grudge exclusively through breeding, filling gaps that TMs and level-up can't touch. Coverage across 7 types rounds out the picture alongside Wood Hammer and Solar Beam.

  • Phantump isn't fully evolved, so it's not built for competitive play. You'll want to evolve it into Trevenant to unlock its full potential. At 309 BST, it's a stepping stone rather than a team anchor.

  • Phantump's biggest threats include Infernape (Fire), Kyurem (Ice), and Salamence (Flying), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Ghost and Dark-type attackers are also a problem. With 5 weakness types, most competitive teams carry at least one counter. At base 38 Speed, Phantump won't outrun any of these threats so switching to a resist is usually the safer play.

  • Phantump evolves into Trevenant by trading. Phantump is the base form of this evolutionary line.

  • Run Natural Cure on Phantump. It's the ability that defines how you build around it and the main reason it holds a competitive niche. Phantump also gets Frisk and Harvest, but they don't compare.

  • Phantump fills the balanced role. It's a physical attacker with base 70 Attack. Base 38 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. And it's fragile — can't afford to take many hits.

  • Phantump appears in 7 games, including X & Y, Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire, and Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon.

Introduced in X & Y, Phantump has appeared in 7 games across 4 generations. Later debuts mean fewer total appearances, but it's been a consistent presence since its introduction.
