Ground moves don't affect Noivern at all — that's the advantage of Flying/Dragon typing. It comfortably outruns most offensive threats. Can go either physical or special depending on the set. Introduced in Gen 6.

Speed and Sp. Atk carry most of Noivern's stat budget. Attack's the obvious dump stat. Tough to catch and yields 2 Speed EVs. Follows a medium-fast 1M XP curve.

Noivern Weakness

Good

Noivern's Flying/Dragon typing leaves it vulnerable to Ice, Rock, Dragon, and Fairy moves. Ice hits land at 4x, so they're the biggest threat. It shrugs off Ground-type attacks completely. 5 resistances help offset the weaknesses.

Recommended Teammates

STAB runs through Sky Attack and Draco Meteor for the basics, but Noivern's real strength is the 11-type coverage spread. Grass and Normal hit common defensive types, and the movepool keeps going.

No wild encounters for Noivern in Legends: Z-A. Bring Noibat over from X, Ultra Sun, or Sword, then level through the stages. Each step in the chain is laid out below.

How to Obtain Noivern in Legends: Z-A

  1. Noibat

    Step 2Noivern
  • We rate Noivern A-Tier — a strong competitive pick. At 535 BST, it fits the support role. Base 123 Speed stands out.

  • Watch for Lapras (Ice), Golem (Rock), and Kingdra (Dragon) when using Noivern. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Lapras is the most dangerous since Ice moves deal 4x damage. Fairy-type attackers are also a problem.

  • Noibat evolves into Noivern at level 48. Noivern is the fully evolved form. At 535 BST, it's got solid stats to work with.

  • Frisk reveals an opponent's held item upon entering battle — that's the one you want on Noivern. Telepathy is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses. Infiltrator works too if your team needs something different.

  • Base 123 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. On offense, Noivern is leaning toward the special side (base 97 Sp. Atk). Defensively? Enough bulk to take a hit or two. Best used as a support.

  • Noivern appears in 7 games, including X & Y, Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire, and Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon.

Noivern joined the series in X & Y and has been available in 7 titles so far. With 4 generations of appearances, it's established itself despite the later start.
