Stats & Training
Bulk defines Hypno's stat line. Sp. Def and HP anchor the defensive side, but Speed can't keep up offensively. Moderately hard to find and worth 2 Sp. Def EVs.
It carries a pendulum-like device. There once was an incident in which it took away a child it hypnotized.
Seeing its swinging pendulum can induce sleep in three seconds, even in someone who just woke up.
Hypno Weakness
Bug, Ghost, and Dark moves hit Hypno for super-effective damage. Hypno's special bulk (base 115 Sp.Def) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Bug, Ghost, Dark |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Fighting, Psychic |
In X & Y, Tyranitar can KO Hypno with Crunch (144-170%). Weavile threatens a KO with Knock Off (130-153%). Gengar's Shadow Ball also KOs at 112-132%.

Moves
Don't skip the egg moves. Hypno picks up Assist and Barrier only through breeding, and both fill gaps the natural movepool can't. STAB runs through Future Sight and Synchronoise while coverage across 9 types adds range.

How to Get Hypno in X & Y
Hypno Guide
For X & Y, we rate Hypno D-Tier: outclassed by other options available in X & Y. At 483 BST, it fits the support role. Base 115 Sp. Def stands out.
Insomnia prevents sleep. That's the one you want on Hypno. Inner Focus is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses. Forewarn works too if your team needs something different.
At base 67 Speed, it won't be moving first often. On offense, Hypno is a mixed attacker with base 73 Attack and 73 Sp. Atk. Defensively? Enough bulk to take a hit or two. Best used as a support.
For X & Y, Hypno has answers, but so do you. Super-effective STAB from faster Pokemon is the simplest answer. Bug, Ghost, and Dark-type attackers hit hardest.
Game Availability
One of the original 151, Hypno has appeared in 19 games — most mainline games. From Red & Blue through the latest titles, it's rarely been left out of a regional Pokedex.
