Mid-stage Pokemon like Gible rarely see competitive play outside of special formats. It's a waypoint on the road to Garchomp, which is where the real potential kicks in. Electric moves can't touch it, and only 2 types hit it super-effectively. Known as the Land Shark Pokemon.

Nothing fancy in Gible's spread. It leans physical with Attack out front. And you'll get 1 Attack EV per KO for it. Follows a slow 1.25M XP grind.

It nests in horizontal holes warmed by geothermal heat. Foes who get too close can expect to be pounced on and bitten.

Gible Weakness

Avg

Gible's Dragon/Ground typing leaves it vulnerable to Ice and Dragon moves. Ice hits land at 4x, so they're the biggest threat. It shrugs off Electric-type attacks completely.

Gible kicks off a three-stage evolution line through Gabite all the way to Garchomp. For breeding, takes forever to hatch with a decent partner pool via two egg groups. The evolved forms gain up to 300 total stats over Gible.

You'll want to breed for Body Slam and Double-Edge on Gible. These egg moves aren't just nice to have. Combined with STAB from Draco Meteor and Outrage, they expand what Gible can actually threaten in practice.

Gible doesn't appear in HeartGold & SoulSilver. Transfer it from Diamond, Platinum, or Scarlet to add it to your collection. Check the source games below for encounter details.

Gible is not available as a wild encounter in this game.

Catch in the wild in:

Then trade to HeartGold & SoulSilver.

Also found in:

  • At 300 BST, Gible is firmly in pre-evolution territory. Evolve it into Gabite before bringing it to any serious fight.

  • Watch for Weavile (Ice) and Garchomp (Dragon) when using Gible. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Weavile is the most dangerous since Ice moves deal 4x damage. Only 2 weaknesses means fewer dedicated counters to worry about.

  • Gible evolves into Gabite at level 24. Gible is the base form in a 3-stage evolutionary line.

  • Sand Veil increases evasion to 1.25× during a sandstorm — that's the one you want on Gible. Rough Skin is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses.

  • Gible is a physical attacker with base 70 Attack. Fragile — can't afford to take many hits, too. But the speed tells the real story — base 42 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go.

  • Gible appears in 14 games, including Platinum, HeartGold & SoulSilver, and Diamond & Pearl.

Debuting in Diamond & Pearl, Gible appears in 14 games across 6 generations. A reliable presence in a solid number of games, typically found through catching or hatching as a base form.
