Froakie sits at the start of its evolution line — not yet at full power, but that changes fast. Most trainers push through to Greninja as fast as possible. Part of the Gen 6 roster. Only weak to Electric and Grass.

Nothing fancy in Froakie's spread. It leans mixed with Speed out front. And you'll get 1 Speed EV per KO for it. Follows a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve.

It secretes flexible bubbles from its chest and back. The bubbles reduce the damage it would otherwise take when attacked.

Omega Ruby

It protects its skin by covering its body in delicate bubbles. Beneath its happy-go-lucky air, it keeps a watchful eye on its surroundings.

Alpha Sapphire

You commit to a move every time Froakie comes in. Choice Scarf gives speed patching through item lock, and Protean adds to that. A spread EV build EVs make sure the locked move actually hurts. The remaining moves covers the rest.

The TM pool is where it gets interesting. Coverage across 10 types means almost nothing walls Froakie cleanly, with Hydro Pump and Surf anchoring the STAB side. Matchup flexibility isn't a problem.

Tutor Moves

Froakie can't learn any Tutor moves

Froakie can't be caught in Scarlet & Violet. Bring it over from X instead. The encounter info below covers the source games.

Froakie is not available as a wild encounter in this game.

Also found in:

  • At 314 BST, Froakie is firmly in pre-evolution territory. Evolve it into Frogadier before bringing it to any serious fight.

  • Froakie's biggest threats include Jolteon (Electric) and Exeggutor (Grass), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Only 2 weaknesses means fewer dedicated counters to worry about.

  • Froakie evolves into Frogadier at level 16. Froakie is the base form in a 3-stage evolutionary line.

  • Froakie gets Protean and Torrent. But Protean is the one that matters — it's the centerpiece of every viable set. Build around that.

  • Froakie is a special attacker with base 62 Sp. Atk. Fragile — can't afford to take many hits, too. But the speed tells the real story — base 71 Speed is workable — faster than some, slower than many. Fits the hazard setter role.

  • Froakie appears in 6 games, including X & Y, Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire, and Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon.

Since X & Y, Froakie has been obtainable in 6 games. A Generation 6 debut means a shorter history, but Froakie has appeared steadily across every generation since.
