While most trainers evolve Vullaby into Mandibuzz immediately, the unevolved form has a niche with Eviolite boosting its defenses. Ground and Psychic moves can't touch it, which offsets the 4 weaknesses somewhat. Known as the Diapered Pokemon.

Vullaby's built to absorb hits, not race for knockouts. Balanced defenses with Defense doing the heavy lifting. And the slow 1.25M XP grind means it won't take forever to bring up, worth 1 Defense EV.

It wears a bone to protect its rear. It often squabbles with others of its kind over particularly comfy bones.

Sword

Vullaby grow quickly. Bones that have gotten too small for older Vullaby to wear often get passed down to younger ones in the nest.

Shield

Vullaby Weakness

Good

Electric, Ice, Rock, and Fairy-type moves hit Vullaby for super-effective damage. The upside? Ground and Psychic-type moves can't touch it at all.

Still unevolved, still relevant. Vullaby's Eviolite bulk with a spread EV build EVs creates a defensive profile that punches above its stage. Weakarmor adds passive value. Knock Off gives it offensive presence.

Without breeding, Vullaby misses out on Mean Look and Roost. That's 3 egg moves adding depth that the base kit lacks. STAB comes from Brave Bird and Foul Play, with Normal and Fire coverage and more rounding things out.

Tutor Moves

Vullaby can't learn any Tutor moves

Vullaby can't be caught in Scarlet & Violet. Bring it over from Black, Black 2, or Shield instead. The encounter info below covers the source games.

Vullaby is not available as a wild encounter in this game.

Also found in:

  • At 370 BST, Vullaby is firmly in pre-evolution territory. Evolve it into Mandibuzz before bringing it to any serious fight.

  • Watch for Raikou (Electric), Lapras (Ice), and Aerodactyl (Rock) when using Vullaby. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Fairy-type attackers are also a problem.

  • Vullaby evolves into Mandibuzz at level 54. Vullaby is the base form of this evolutionary line.

  • Big Pecks protects against Defense drops — that's the one you want on Vullaby. Weak Armor is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses. Overcoat works too if your team needs something different.

  • Vullaby is leaning toward the physical side (base 55 Attack). Enough bulk to take a hit or two, too. But the speed tells the real story — at base 60 Speed, it won't be moving first often. Fits the support role.

  • Vullaby appears in 8 games, including Black & White, Black 2 & White 2, and X & Y.

Since Black & White, Vullaby has been obtainable in 8 games. A Generation 5 debut means a shorter history, but Vullaby has appeared steadily across every generation since.
