Mid-stage Pokemon like Weedle rarely see competitive play outside of special formats. It's a waypoint on the road to Beedrill, which is where the real potential kicks in. Only weak to Fire, Flying, Psychic, and Rock. Known as the Hairy Bug Pokemon.

Speed and HP carry most of Weedle's stat budget. Sp. Atk's the obvious dump stat. Easy to catch and yields 1 Speed EV. Follows a medium-fast 1M XP curve.

Three stages ahead. Weedle grows into Kakuna, then pushes on to Beedrill. Check the evolution methods below. For breeding, quick to hatch with a decent partner pool via one egg group. The evolved forms gain up to 200 total stats over Weedle.

Best Build

Gen 2 build content has limited support (no abilities).

Try selecting a different game/generation filter, or check back later.

Not a lot to pick from. Weedle gets Poison Sting for same-type damage, and limited coverage rounds things out. You're building around what's available rather than choosing from a deep bench.

Weedle is available from early-game areas onward at high spawn rates. 30 encounter spots give you plenty of options. Grab one early and it'll be ready to evolve or train by mid-game.

Best Locations

Weedle's encounter pool splits between Silver and Gold. You've got 30 headbutt and walking spots at Lv. 3-18 total, but your version determines which ones actually show up.

  • Weedle is meant to evolve into Kakuna. At 195 BST, the stats aren't there for competitive play yet. Pre-evolution Pokemon rarely hold up against fully evolved threats.

  • Watch for Arcanine (Fire), Dodrio (Flying), and Starmie (Psychic) when using Weedle. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Rock-type attackers are also a problem.

  • Weedle evolves into Kakuna at level 7. Weedle is the base form in a 3-stage evolutionary line.

  • Base 50 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. On offense, Weedle is leaning toward the physical side (base 35 Attack). Defensively? Fragile — can't afford to take many hits.

  • Weedle appears in 19 games, including Yellow, Red & Blue, and Gold & Silver.

One of the original 151, Weedle has appeared in 19 games — most mainline games. From Red & Blue through the latest titles, it's rarely been left out of a regional Pokedex.
