How to Get Wailmer in HeartGold & SoulSilver

Wailmer Guide

  • At 400 BST, Wailmer is firmly in pre-evolution territory. Evolve it into Wailord before bringing it to any serious fight.

  • In HeartGold & SoulSilver, Wailmer's biggest threats include Manectric (Electric) and Venusaur (Grass), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Only 2 weaknesses means fewer dedicated counters to worry about.

  • Water Veil is the go-to ability for Wailmer. It prevents burns. Its hidden ability Pressure can work in specific setups. Oblivious is the other option. Pick based on what your team needs.

  • Wailmer is a mixed attacker with base 70 Attack and 70 Sp. Atk. Enough bulk to take a hit or two, too. Speed tells the real story. At base 60 Speed, it won't be moving first often.

  • In HeartGold & SoulSilver, For a casual playthrough, Wailmer works as a placeholder. Water coverage is useful early. The real payoff is Wailord. That's where the stats start mattering.

Game Availability

Debuting in Ruby & Sapphire, Wailmer appears in 15 games across 8 generations. A reliable presence in most mainline games, typically found through catching or hatching as a base form.
