The stat bars tell the story: Attack carries everything and Speed's dead weight. But this Hex Nut Pokemon still yields 3 Attack EVs per fight on a slow 1.25M XP grind.

In a distant land, there are legends about a cyclopean giant. In fact, the giant was a Melmetal that was flooded with Gigantamax energy.

Fire, Fighting, and Ground moves hit Melmetal for super-effective damage. The upside? Poison-type moves can't touch it at all. It resists 10 types, so it can switch into a lot of moves safely. Melmetal's physical bulk (base 143 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.

Ironfist helps Melmetal stick around while dealing real damage. Assault Vest for a special bulk boost with no status moves allowed, max HP and Attack EVs for the right balance, and Doubleironbash as the main threat. Not the fastest, but it doesn't need to be.

The level-up pool is slim, so TMs matter here. Melmetal's coverage across 8 types all comes from technical machines, built on top of Steel Beam and Flash Cannon for same-type damage. Dynamic Punch and Hyper Beam are the payoff moves.

How to Obtain Melmetal in Legends: Z-A

  1. Meltan
    Step 1Obtain Meltan
  2. Melmetal
    Step 2Melmetal
  • At 600 BST, Melmetal is built different. We rank it B-Tier. As a Mythical Pokemon, the raw stats back up the reputation. Best used as a wallbreaker.

  • Watch for Volcarona (Fire), Machamp (Fighting), and Rhydon (Ground) when using Melmetal. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. At base 34 Speed, Melmetal won't outrun any of these threats so switching to a resist is usually the safer play.

  • Iron Fist strengthens punch-based moves to 1.2× their power. That's the one you want on Melmetal. It's the only ability Melmetal has.

  • Melmetal is a physical attacker with base 143 Attack. Tanky enough to absorb a few hits, too. Speed tells the real story. Base 34 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. Fits the wallbreaker role.

  • Run Doubleironbash, Thunderpunch, Earthquake, and Icepunch on Melmetal. Doubleironbash is the most common pick at 25% usage. This set covers the wallbreaker role with a mix of damage and utility.

Introduced in Sun & Moon, Melmetal shows up in 3 games across 4 generations. Mythical status keeps it locked behind events or specific story content in most appearances.
