Few Pokemon outrun Jolteon without a Choice Scarf. Electric typing gives it solid coverage options. Volt Absorb heals when hit by Electric moves. The stat spread leans into special offense. A competitive option since Gen 1.

Jolteon's built around special offense. Speed leads the charge, Defense pays for it. Tough to catch, worth 2 Speed EVs. Follows a medium-fast 1M XP curve.

JOLTEON’s cells generate a low level of electricity. This power is amplified by the static electricity of its fur, enabling the POKéMON to drop thunderbolts. The bristling fur is made of electrically charged needles.

Jolteon Weakness

Good

Jolteon's Electric typing leaves it vulnerable to Ground moves. Its Electric typing keeps the defensive matchups simple. Volt Absorb grants an additional Electric immunity, reshaping the matchup chart. Jolteon's special bulk (base 95 Sp.Def) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.

Baton Pass keeps your team's momentum going. Jolteon doesn't need to stay in long, Leftovers provides passive recovery each turn and max Sp. Atk and Speed EVs make every visit count. Thunderbolt threatens on the way out. Voltabsorb adds passive value.

The natural movepool does the job, but Charm and Curse from the egg pool give Jolteon something extra. Pair those with Thunder and Thunderbolt for STAB and coverage across 7 types for reach, and the kit fills out nicely.

No wild encounters for Jolteon in Ruby & Sapphire. Bring Eevee over from Red, Yellow, or Ultra Sun, then level through the stages. Each step in the chain is laid out below.

How to Obtain Jolteon in Ruby & Sapphire

  1. Eevee
    Step 1Obtain Eevee

    Receive as a gift in:

Then trade to Ruby & Sapphire to continue the evolution chain.

    Also found in:

  2. Jolteon
    Step 2Jolteon
  • Don't let Jolteon's 525 base stat total fool you. Volt Absorb is what makes it tick — it punches way above its weight class. We rate it A-Tier as a sweeper.

  • Watch for Rhydon (Ground) when using Jolteon. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Only 1 weakness means fewer dedicated counters to worry about.

  • Eevee evolves into Jolteon using a Thunder Stone. Jolteon is the final evolution in a 9-stage line starting from Eevee. At 525 BST, it's got solid stats to work with.

  • Run Volt Absorb on Jolteon. It's the ability that defines how you build around it and the main reason it holds a competitive niche. Jolteon also gets Quick Feet, but they don't compare. With base 130 Speed, Volt Absorb gives Jolteon an edge before opponents can react.

  • Jolteon fills the sweeper role. It's a special attacker with base 110 Sp. Atk. Base 130 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.

  • Jolteon appears in 22 games, including Yellow, Red & Blue, and Gold & Silver.

Jolteon has been part of the series since Red & Blue, appearing in 22 titles across all 9 generations. As a Gen 1 original, it's one of the most consistently available Pokemon in the franchise.
