Stats & Training
Jolteon's built around special offense. Speed leads the charge, Defense pays for it. Tough to catch, worth 2 Speed EVs. Follows a medium-fast 1M XP curve.
Its cells generate weak power that is amplified by its fur’s static electricity to drop thunderbolts. The bristling fur is made of electrically charged needles.
Jolteon Weakness
Jolteon's Electric typing leaves it vulnerable to Ground. Its Electric typing keeps the defensive matchups simple. Volt Absorb grants an additional Electric immunity, reshaping the matchup chart. Jolteon's special bulk (base 95 Sp.Def) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Ground |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Electric, Flying, Steel |
- Dark and Steel types added — Fairy does not exist yet
- Moves are Physical or Special based on type, not per move
In Emerald, Moltres's Flamethrower hits Jolteon for 55-65%. Charizard's Fire Blast hits Jolteon for 61-72%. Wailord deals 73-86% with Self-Destruct.

How to Get Jolteon in Emerald
Jolteon isn't available in the wild in Emerald. Start by transferring Eevee from Red, Yellow, or Ultra Sun. The evolution path from Eevee to Jolteon is covered in the steps below.
Jolteon Guide
In Emerald, Don't let Jolteon's 525 base stat total fool you. Volt Absorb is what makes it tick. It punches way above its weight class. We rate it A-Tier as a sweeper. Thunderbolt with Leftovers is the standard set.
In Emerald, watch for Rhydon (Ground) when using Jolteon. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Only 1 weakness means fewer dedicated counters to worry about.
In Emerald, Run Volt Absorb on Jolteon. It's the ability that defines how you build around it and the main reason it holds a competitive niche. Jolteon also gets Quick Feet, but they don't compare. With base 130 Speed, Volt Absorb gives Jolteon an edge before opponents can react.
In Emerald, Jolteon fills the sweeper role. It's a special attacker with base 110 Sp. Atk. Base 130 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.
For Emerald, Jolteon has answers, but so do you. Priority moves (Mach Punch, Aqua Jet, Ice Shard) bypass its speed. Bulky walls that resist its STAB also shut it down.
Game Availability
Jolteon has been part of the series since Red & Blue, appearing in 22 titles across all 10 generations. As a Gen 1 original, it's one of the most consistently available Pokemon in the franchise.
