Hatenna sits at the start of its evolution line — not yet at full power, but that changes fast. Most trainers push through to Hatterene as fast as possible. Introduced in Gen 8. Only weak to Bug, Ghost, and Dark.
Sp. Atk and Sp. Def carry most of Hatenna's stat budget. Attack's the obvious dump stat. Easy to catch and yields 1 Sp. Atk EV. Follows a slow 1.25M XP grind.
Because the emotions of others constantly flow into its head, this Pokémon prefers environments where no other creatures live.
It senses the feelings of other living creatures. Be careful not to expose it to strong emotions for too long, or it will end up exhausted.
Hatenna Weakness
VulnerableHatenna is weak to Bug, Ghost, and Dark-type moves. Standard number of weaknesses for the Psychic typing.
Three stages ahead. Hatenna grows into Hattrem, then pushes on to Hatterene. Check the evolution methods below. For breeding, average hatch time with a decent partner pool via one egg group. Evolving adds up to 245 stat points total.
How to Evolve
Breed Hatenna with 45 breeding partners from the Fairy egg group. Pass egg moves like After You, Mystical Fire, Nuzzle and 1 more to offspring.
Don't let the NFE status fool you. Hatenna with Eviolite hits bulk numbers that compete with final forms. A spread EV build EVs and Modest nature maximize that, and Magic Bounce handles the rest.

Breeding opens up real options for Hatenna. After You and Mystical Fire come exclusively from egg moves, and they're worth the effort. The rest of the kit covers basics through Future Sight and Psychic and Fairy and Dark coverage and more.

Best Locations
Before you go hunting for Hatenna, check which of the 22 spots belong to your version. Violet and Scarlet each have different walking encounters at Lv. 16-42.
Hatenna is meant to evolve into Hattrem. At 265 BST, the stats aren't there for competitive play yet. Pre-evolution Pokemon rarely hold up against fully evolved threats.
Hatenna evolves into Hattrem at level 32. Hatenna is the base form in a 3-stage evolutionary line.
Magic Bounce is what you want on Hatenna. Every competitive set worth running is built with that ability in mind. The alternatives (Healer, Anticipation) work on paper but Magic Bounce is what makes Hatenna worth using.
Base 39 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. On offense, Hatenna is a mixed attacker — base 30 Attack and 56 Sp. Atk. Defensively? Fragile — can't afford to take many hits.
Hatenna can be found in Scarlet & Violet and Sword & Shield.
Hatenna joined the series in Sword & Shield and has been available in 2 titles so far. With 2 generations of appearances, it's established itself despite the later start.
