Gulpin is technically a pre-evolution of Swalot, but it holds its own in formats where Eviolite is allowed. Only weak to Ground and Psychic. Introduced in Gen 3. Known as the Stomach Pokemon.

HP and Defense carry most of Gulpin's stat budget. Speed's the obvious dump stat. Easy to catch and yields 1 HP EV. Follows a standard growth curve.

Almost all its body is its stomach. Its harsh digestive juices quickly dissolve anything it swallows.

Egg moves make a real difference. Gulpin gets Acid Armor and Curse exclusively through breeding, filling gaps that TMs and level-up can't touch. Coverage across 8 types rounds out the picture alongside Gunk Shot and Sludge Bomb.

  • Gulpin is meant to evolve into Swalot. At 302 BST, the stats aren't there for competitive play yet. Pre-evolution Pokemon rarely hold up against fully evolved threats.

  • Gulpin's biggest threats include Rhydon (Ground) and Starmie (Psychic), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Only 2 weaknesses means fewer dedicated counters to worry about. At base 40 Speed, Gulpin won't outrun any of these threats so switching to a resist is usually the safer play.

  • Gulpin evolves into Swalot at level 26. Gulpin is the base form of this evolutionary line.

  • Liquid Ooze is the go-to ability for Gulpin. It damages opponents using leeching moves for as much as they would heal. Its hidden ability Gluttony can work in specific setups. Sticky Hold is the other option — pick based on what your team needs.

  • Base 40 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. On offense, Gulpin is leaning toward the physical side (base 43 Attack).

  • Gulpin appears in 15 games, including Ruby & Sapphire, FireRed & LeafGreen, and Emerald.

Available in 15 titles since its debut in Ruby & Sapphire, Gulpin spans 7 generations of Pokemon games. It's accessible through catching or hatching as a base form in most mainline games.
