Gorebyss Guide

  • In X & Y, Gorebyss looks average on paper at 485 BST. But Swift Swim is why it sees play. Build around that and it pulls its weight. C-Tier attacker on our tier list. Shellsmash with White Herb is the standard set.

  • In X & Y, Gorebyss's biggest threats include Manectric (Electric) and Venusaur (Grass), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Only 2 weaknesses means fewer dedicated counters to worry about.

  • Gorebyss gets Swift Swim and Hydration. But Swift Swim is the one that matters. It's the centerpiece of every viable set. Build around that.

  • Gorebyss is a special attacker with base 114 Sp. Atk. Enough bulk to take a hit or two, too. Speed tells the real story. At base 52 Speed, it won't be moving first often. Fits the attacker role.

  • For X & Y, the core moveset is Shellsmash, Ice Beam, Surf, and Refresh. Shellsmash leads at 25% usage. Surf provides reliable STAB damage.

Game Availability

Since Ruby & Sapphire, Gorebyss has been in 13 games. Requiring a trade evolution to obtain means it's consistently available but requires more effort than simply catching it in the wild.
