Gastly sits at the start of its evolution line — not yet at full power, but that changes fast. Most trainers push through to Gengar as fast as possible. Normal and Fighting moves can't touch it, which offsets the 4 weaknesses somewhat. Known as the Gas Pokemon.
Nothing fancy in Gastly's spread. It leans special with Sp. Atk out front. And you'll get 1 Sp. Atk EV per KO for it. Follows a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve.
It wraps its opponent in its gas-like body, slowly weakening its prey by poisoning it through the skin.
Its body is made of gas. Despite lacking substance, it can envelop an opponent of any size and cause suffocation.
Gastly Weakness
GoodGastly is weak to Ground, Psychic, Ghost, and Dark-type moves. On the flip side, it's immune to Normal and Fighting-type moves entirely. The Ghost/Poison typing picks up 4 resistances to work with. Levitate grants an additional Ground immunity, reshaping the matchup chart. Gastly leans toward special offense (base 100 Sp.Atk) instead of trying to wall anything.
Gastly kicks off a three-stage evolution line through Haunter all the way to Gengar. For breeding, average hatch time with no compatible partners via one egg group. Evolving adds up to 190 stat points total.
How to Evolve
Breed Gastly easily from the Indeterminate egg group.
Focus Sash guarantees Gastly survives one hit from full HP. That's enough to deal early damage and fire off Destinybond before going down. Levitate and max Attack and Speed EVs maximize first-turn impact.

Recommended Teammates
Most of Gastly's flexibility comes from TMs. Same-type output runs through Gunk Shot and Sludge Bomb, but Psychic and Ice and the rest of the TM pool push it from predictable to genuinely threatening.

At 310 BST, Gastly is firmly in pre-evolution territory. Evolve it into Haunter before bringing it to any serious fight.
Gastly evolves into Haunter at level 25. Gastly is the base form in a 3-stage evolutionary line.
Gastly gets Levitate. But Levitate is the one that matters — it's the centerpiece of every viable set. Build around that.
Gastly is leaning toward the special side (base 100 Sp. Atk). Fragile — can't afford to take many hits, too. But the speed tells the real story — base 80 Speed is workable — faster than some, slower than many. Fits the attacker role.
