Almost nobody uses Fomantis in battle. It exists to evolve into Lurantis, which is a completely different story. Get it there and you won't regret it. 5 type weaknesses to keep in mind. Known as the Sickle Grass Pokemon.
Fomantis's stats barely vary. 0 sit in respectable range with no real gaps. It's a blank slate for EV investment. Worth 1 Attack EV, medium-fast 1M XP curve to max.
Fomantis hates having its naps interrupted. It fires off beams using energy it gathers by bathing in the sun.
Many Trainers give their Fomantis their own flowerpots so they can sunbathe in peace and quiet.
Fomantis Weakness
FragileFire, Ice, Poison, Flying, and Bug-type moves hit Fomantis for super-effective damage. It resists 4 types, giving it decent defensive coverage.
Fomantis evolves into Lurantis. It's a two-stage chain with the method shown below. Plenty of partners for breeding via one egg group. Eggs are average hatch time. The evolved forms gain up to 230 total stats over Fomantis.
How to Evolve
Breed Fomantis easily with 73 breeding partners from the Plant egg group. Pass egg moves like Defog, Superpower, Worry Seed to offspring.
Contrary and Eviolite give Fomantis staying power beyond its evolution stage. Hasty nature boosts Speed, a spread EV build EVs set the spread, and the pre-evolution bulk actually works here.

Don't skip the egg moves. Fomantis picks up Defog and Superpower only through breeding, and both fill gaps the natural movepool can't. STAB runs through Leaf Storm and Solar Beam while Bug and Normal coverage and more adds range.

Fomantis isn't fully evolved, so it's not built for competitive play. You'll want to evolve it into Lurantis to unlock its full potential. At 250 BST, it's a stepping stone rather than a team anchor.
Watch for Infernape (Fire), Kyurem (Ice), and Naganadel (Poison) when using Fomantis. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Flying and Bug-type attackers are also a problem. With 5 weakness types, most competitive teams carry at least one counter. At base 35 Speed, Fomantis won't outrun any of these threats so switching to a resist is usually the safer play.
Fomantis evolves into Lurantis at level 34. Fomantis is the base form of this evolutionary line.
Run Contrary on Fomantis. It's the ability that defines how you build around it and the main reason it holds a competitive niche. Fomantis also gets Leaf Guard, but they don't compare.
Fomantis fills the balanced role. It's a physical attacker with base 55 Attack. Base 35 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. And it's fragile — can't afford to take many hits.
Fomantis can be found in Scarlet & Violet, Sword & Shield, Sun & Moon, and Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon.
Introduced in Sun & Moon, Fomantis has appeared in 4 games across 3 generations. Later debuts mean fewer total appearances, but it's been a consistent presence since its introduction.
