Almost nobody uses Fomantis in battle. It exists to evolve into Lurantis, which is a completely different story. Get it there and you won't regret it. 5 type weaknesses to keep in mind. Known as the Sickle Grass Pokemon.

Fomantis's stats barely vary. 0 sit in respectable range with no real gaps. It's a blank slate for EV investment. Worth 1 Attack EV, medium-fast 1M XP curve to max.

Don't skip the egg moves. Fomantis picks up Aromatherapy and Defog only through breeding, and both fill gaps the natural movepool can't. STAB runs through Leaf Storm and Solar Beam while Bug and Normal coverage and more adds range.

  • Fomantis isn't fully evolved, so it's not built for competitive play. You'll want to evolve it into Lurantis to unlock its full potential. At 250 BST, it's a stepping stone rather than a team anchor.

  • Watch for Infernape (Fire), Kyurem (Ice), and Naganadel (Poison) when using Fomantis. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Flying and Bug-type attackers are also a problem. With 5 weakness types, most competitive teams carry at least one counter. At base 35 Speed, Fomantis won't outrun any of these threats so switching to a resist is usually the safer play.

  • Fomantis evolves into Lurantis at level 34. Fomantis is the base form of this evolutionary line.

  • Run Contrary on Fomantis. It's the ability that defines how you build around it and the main reason it holds a competitive niche. Fomantis also gets Leaf Guard, but they don't compare.

  • Fomantis fills the balanced role. It's a physical attacker with base 55 Attack. Base 35 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. And it's fragile — can't afford to take many hits.

  • Fomantis can be found in Scarlet & Violet, Sword & Shield, Sun & Moon, and Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon.

Introduced in Sun & Moon, Fomantis has appeared in 4 games across 3 generations. Later debuts mean fewer total appearances, but it's been a consistent presence since its introduction.
