Mid-stage Pokemon like Fennekin rarely see competitive play outside of special formats. It's a waypoint on the road to Delphox, which is where the real potential kicks in. Only weak to Water, Ground, and Rock. Known as the Fox Pokemon.

You won't find a real weakness in Fennekin's stat line. It's well-rounded for the Fox Pokemon, and what it does with that depends on moveset and items. Yields 1 Sp. Atk EV, on a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve.

Eating a twig fills it with energy, and its roomy ears give vent to air hotter than 390 degrees Fahrenheit.

Omega Ruby

As it walks, it munches on a twig in place of a snack. It intimidates opponents by puffing hot air out of its ears.

The game plan is straightforward: click Calm Mind, then sweep. Eviolite and Magician support the setup turn. EVs go into a spread EV build so Fennekin hits hard once it's boosted.

The level-up pool is slim, so TMs matter here. Fennekin's Normal and Psychic coverage and more all comes from technical machines, built on top of Overheat and Flare Blitz for same-type damage. Flamethrower and Psychic are the payoff moves.

No wild encounters for Fennekin in Scarlet & Violet. It's available in X and can be transferred over. The details below show where to find it.

Fennekin is not available as a wild encounter in this game.

Also found in:

  • At 307 BST, Fennekin is firmly in pre-evolution territory. Evolve it into Braixen before bringing it to any serious fight.

  • Watch for Milotic (Water) and Golem (Ground) when using Fennekin. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Rock-type attackers are also a problem.

  • Fennekin evolves into Braixen at level 16. Fennekin is the base form in a 3-stage evolutionary line.

  • Blaze strengthens fire moves to inflict 1.5× damage at 1/3 max HP or less — that's the one you want on Fennekin. Magician is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses.

  • Fennekin is a special attacker with base 62 Sp. Atk. Fragile — can't afford to take many hits, too. But the speed tells the real story — at base 60 Speed, it won't be moving first often.

  • Fennekin appears in 6 games, including X & Y, Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire, and Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon.

Since X & Y, Fennekin has been obtainable in 6 games. A Generation 6 debut means a shorter history, but Fennekin has appeared steadily across every generation since.
