Mid-stage Pokemon like Wurmple rarely see competitive play outside of special formats. It's a waypoint on the road to Beautifly, which is where the real potential kicks in. Introduced in Gen 3. Only weak to Fire, Flying, and Rock.
An unusually even spread gives Wurmple flexibility. HP barely edges ahead. But Sp. Atk isn't far off. Easy to catch and follows a medium-fast 1M XP curve. Yields 1 HP EV.
Using the spikes on its rear end, Wurmple peels the bark off trees and feeds on the sap that oozes out. This Pokémon’s feet are tipped with suction pads that allow it to cling to glass without slipping.
Wurmple is targeted by Swellow as prey. This Pokémon will try to resist by pointing the spikes on its rear at the attacking predator. It will weaken the foe by leaking poison from the spikes.

Wurmple is meant to evolve into Silcoon. At 195 BST, the stats aren't there for competitive play yet. Pre-evolution Pokemon rarely hold up against fully evolved threats.
Shield Dust protects against incoming moves' extra effects — that's the one you want on Wurmple. Run Away is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses.
Base 20 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. On offense, Wurmple is a physical attacker with base 45 Attack. Defensively? Fragile — can't afford to take many hits.
