Stats & Training
Sp. Atk and Speed carry most of Venomoth's stat budget. Defense's the obvious dump stat. Moderately hard to find and yields 2 Sp. Atk and Speed EVs. Follows a medium-fast 1M XP curve.
VENOMOTH are nocturnal--they only are active at night. Their favorite prey are insects that gather around streetlights, attracted by the light in the darkness.
Venomoth Weakness
Fire, Flying, Psychic, and Rock moves hit Venomoth for super-effective damage. 4 resistances help offset the weaknesses. Venomoth leans toward special offense (base 90 Sp.Atk) instead of trying to wall anything.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Fire, Flying, Psychic, Rock |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Poison, Bug |
| 0.25x (Resist) | Grass, Fighting |
- Dark and Steel types added — Fairy does not exist yet
- Moves are Physical or Special based on type, not per move
In Emerald, Aerodactyl can KO Venomoth with Rock Slide (170-201%). Starmie's Surf hits Venomoth for 55-65%. Charizard's Fire Blast also KOs at 143-169%.

Emerald Evolution
Evolved from Venonat. Venomoth is the final form in this two-stage line. A decent partner pool for breeding via one egg group. Eggs are average hatch time. Sp.Atk grew the most through evolution (+50 over Venonat), and Venomoth peaks at 450 total stats. View every chain in the Evolution Chart.
How to Evolve
Breeding
Breed with Venomoth to get Venonat eggs easily using 37 partners from the Bug egg group. Notable egg moves include Baton Pass, Giga Drain, Screech and 1 more.
Emerald Venomoth Best Moveset
The build revolves around Baton Pass for safe pivoting. Shielddust and Leftovers support Venomoth's hit-and-run approach, with max Sp. Atk and Speed EVs making sure each pivot actually threatens. Utility options adds versatility.

Moves
Don't skip the egg moves. Venomoth picks up Baton Pass and Giga Drain only through breeding, and both fill gaps the natural movepool can't. STAB runs through Sludge Bomb and Leech Life while Normal and Psychic coverage and more adds range.

How to Get Venomoth in Emerald
Venomoth can't be caught in Emerald. Transfer Venonat from Red, Yellow, or FireRed and evolve through the 2-stage line to get it. The step cards below map the full chain.
Venomoth Guide
In Emerald, Tinted Lens changes the entire equation for Venomoth. The 450 BST doesn't tell the full story. Ranked C-Tier as a pivot. Sleep Powder with Leftovers is the standard set.
Tinted Lens is what you want on Venomoth. Every competitive set worth running is built with that ability in mind. The alternatives (Shield Dust, Wonder Skin) work on paper but Tinted Lens is what makes Venomoth worth using.
Base 90 Speed is workable. Faster than some, slower than many. On offense, Venomoth is a physical attacker with base 65 Attack. Defensively? Enough bulk to take a hit or two. Best used as a pivot.
In Emerald, run Sleep Powder, Substitute, Baton Pass, and Stun Spore on Venomoth. Sleep Powder is the most common pick at 22% usage. This set covers the pivot role with a mix of damage and utility.
