Mid-stage Pokemon like Swadloon rarely see competitive play outside of special formats. It's a waypoint on the road to Leavanny, which is where the real potential kicks in. Introduced in Gen 5. Works well under Trick Room.

Bulk defines Swadloon's stat line. Defense and Sp. Def anchor the defensive side, but Speed can't keep up offensively. Common in the wild and worth 2 Defense EVs.

Without breeding, Swadloon misses out on Agility and Air Slash. That's 9 egg moves adding depth that the base kit lacks. STAB comes from Solar Beam and Energy Ball, with Normal and Psychic coverage and more rounding things out.

or evolve from Sewaddle (Step 1)
  • Swadloon is meant to evolve into Leavanny. At 380 BST, the stats aren't there for competitive play yet. Pre-evolution Pokemon rarely hold up against fully evolved threats.

  • Watch for Arcanine (Fire), Aerodactyl (Flying), and Cloyster (Ice) when using Swadloon. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Arcanine is the most dangerous since Fire moves deal 4x damage. Poison, Bug, and Rock-type attackers are also a problem. With 6 weakness types, most competitive teams carry at least one counter.

  • Sewaddle evolves into Swadloon at level 20. Swadloon evolves into Leavanny by leveling up. Swadloon is a middle-stage evolution in the Sewaddle line.

  • Chlorophyll is what you want on Swadloon. Every competitive set worth running is built with that ability in mind. The alternatives (Leaf Guard, Overcoat) work on paper but Chlorophyll is what makes Swadloon worth using.

  • Base 42 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. On offense, Swadloon is a physical attacker with base 63 Attack. Defensively? Enough bulk to take a hit or two.

  • Swadloon appears in 7 games, including Black & White, Black 2 & White 2, and X & Y.

Swadloon joined the series in Black & White and has been available in 7 titles so far. With 5 generations of appearances, it's established itself despite the later start.
