Smoochum is a baby Pokemon from Gen 2 — it can't hold its own in battle yet. The payoff is Jynx, which is where the real competitive value lives. Worth raising if you need one on your team. Its typing leaves 6 weaknesses to cover, which limits where it can switch in safely.
Sp. Atk and Sp. Def carry most of Smoochum's stat budget. Defense's the obvious dump stat. Tough to catch and yields 1 Sp. Atk EV. Follows a medium-fast 1M XP curve.
Its lips are the most sensitive parts on its body. It always uses its lips first to examine things.
It always rocks its head slowly backwards and forwards as if it is trying to kiss someone.
Smoochum Weakness
FragileType-wise, Smoochum takes extra damage from Fire, Bug, Rock, Ghost, Dark, and Steel. Smoochum's special bulk (base 65 Sp.Def) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.
- Dark and Steel types added — Fairy does not exist yet
- Moves are Physical or Special based on type, not per move
- Special stat split into Sp.Atk and Sp.Def
This is the baby stage. Smoochum grows into Jynx at level 30. Want more? Breed the adults. Baby Pokemon sit in the Undiscovered egg group. Evolving adds up to 150 stat points total.
How to Evolve
double STAB keeps opponents guessing about Smoochum's real targets. Quickclaw provides extra utility while flexible EVs EVs and a nature nature handle the stat profile. An ability ties it together.

TMs carry this one. Smoochum learns Blizzard and Dream Eater naturally for STAB, but the offensive range comes almost entirely from technical machines. Ghost and Normal and beyond give it real matchup play.
