Skrelp is technically a pre-evolution of Dragalge, but it holds its own in formats where Eviolite is allowed. Adaptability boosts same-type moves from 1.5x to 2x damage, adding extra value. Flexible enough to run physical or special sets.

Skrelp's spread isn't flashy. Attack leads, Speed trails, 0 stats clear the bar. Easy to catch and worth 1 Sp. Def EV, on a medium-fast 1M XP curve.

It drifts in the ocean, blending in with floating seaweed. When other Pokémon come to feast on the seaweed, Skrelp feasts on them instead.

Sword

Skrelp looks like a piece of rotten seaweed, so it can blend in with seaweed drifting on the ocean and avoid being detected by enemies.

Shield

Skrelp Weakness

Good

Type-wise, Skrelp takes extra damage from Electric, Ground, and Psychic. 8 resistances give it solid defensive coverage on top of that.

The egg pool carries weight here. Acid Armor and Dragon Tail aren't available any other way for Skrelp, and they meaningfully change what it threatens. Stack those on top of Gunk Shot and Hydro Pump for solid options.

  • Skrelp isn't fully evolved, so it's not built for competitive play. You'll want to evolve it into Dragalge to unlock its full potential. At 320 BST, it's a stepping stone rather than a team anchor.

  • Skrelp's biggest threats include Manectric (Electric), Rhydon (Ground), and Espeon (Psychic), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. At base 30 Speed, Skrelp won't outrun any of these threats so switching to a resist is usually the safer play.

  • Skrelp evolves into Dragalge at level 48. Skrelp is the base form of this evolutionary line.

  • Run Adaptability on Skrelp. It's the ability that defines how you build around it and the main reason it holds a competitive niche. Skrelp also gets Poison Point and Poison Touch, but they don't compare.

  • Skrelp fills the balanced role. It's leaning toward the physical side (base 60 Attack). Base 30 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go.

  • Skrelp appears in 7 games, including X & Y, Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire, and Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon.

Introduced in X & Y, Skrelp has appeared in 7 games across 4 generations. Later debuts mean fewer total appearances, but it's been a consistent presence since its introduction.
