Defense and Speed carry most of Obstagoon's stat budget. Sp. Atk's the obvious dump stat. Tough to catch and yields 3 Defense EVs. Follows a medium-fast 1M XP curve.
Its voice is staggering in volume. Obstagoon has a tendency to take on a threatening posture and shout—this move is known as Obstruct.
It evolved after experiencing numerous fights. While crossing its arms, it lets out a shout that would make any opponent flinch.
Type-wise, Obstagoon takes extra damage from Fighting, Bug, and Fairy. Watch out for Fighting attacks, those deal 4x damage. Psychic and Ghost moves do nothing thanks to a full immunity. With 93 HP and balanced defenses, Obstagoon can afford to eat a neutral hit or two.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 4x (Critical) | Fighting |
| 2x (Weak) | Bug, Fairy |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Dark |
| 0x (Immune) | Psychic, Ghost |
Volcarona's Heat Wave hits Obstagoon for 54-64%. Annihilape threatens a KO with Drain Punch (118-139%). Whimsicott deals 61-72% with Moonblast.

We rate Obstagoon C-Tier: a situational pick that fills a niche. At 520 BST, the stats are spread pretty evenly. Base 101 Defense stands out.
Obstagoon's biggest threats include Conkeldurr (Fighting), Volcarona (Bug), and Grimmsnarl (Fairy), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Conkeldurr is the most dangerous since Fighting moves deal 4x damage.
Reckless is the go-to ability for Obstagoon. It strengthens recoil moves to 1.2× their power. Its hidden ability Defiant can work in specific setups. Guts is the other option. Pick based on what your team needs.
Base 95 Speed is workable. Faster than some, slower than many. On offense, Obstagoon is a physical attacker with base 90 Attack. Defensively? Enough bulk to take a hit or two.
Best way to handle Obstagoon: Super-effective STAB from faster Pokemon is the simplest answer. Fighting, Bug, and Fairy-type attackers hit hardest.
Obstagoon joined the series in Sword & Shield and has been available in 1 titles so far. With 3 generations of appearances, it's established itself despite the later start.
