Heatran has the stats to dominate any format it's allowed in. 130 base Sp. Atk stands out, and the rest of the spread doesn't have obvious weak points either. Flash Fire adds even more value. Part of the Gen 4 roster.

Nothing fancy in Heatran's spread. It leans special with Sp. Atk out front. And you'll get 3 Sp. Atk EVs per KO for it. Follows a slow 1.25M XP grind.

Stories tell of this Pokémon being birthed from the boiling magma within Mount Coronet. Its molten-steel body holds many mysteries.

Heatran Weakness

Fortress

Ground, Water, and Fighting-type moves hit Heatran for super-effective damage. Ground hits land at 4x, so they're the biggest threat. The upside? Poison-type moves can't touch it at all. It resists 9 types, so it can switch into a lot of moves safely. Flash Fire grants an additional Fire immunity, reshaping the matchup chart. Heatran's overall bulk (91/106/106) lets it take a hit or two from most weaknesses before going down.

Abilities
Flash FireProtects against fire moves. Once one has been blocked, the Pokémon's own Fire moves inflict 1.5× damage until it leaves battle.
Flame BodyHAHas a 30% chance of burning attacking Pokémon on contact.
Flash Fire grants Fire immunity

A Fire/Steel-type legendary, Heatran doesn't evolve or breed. At 600 total stats, it's meant to stand on its own.

Start with max Sp. Atk and Speed EVs. Timid nature gives Heatran the right fast special lean, Air Balloon adds temporary Ground immunity, and Flashfire works in the background. Earthpower is the main damage option.

The level-up pool is slim, so TMs matter here. Heatran's coverage across 7 types all comes from technical machines, built on top of Steel Beam and Overheat for same-type damage. Take Down and Earth Power are the payoff moves.

Heatran doesn't appear in Legends: Z-A. Transfer it from Diamond, Platinum, or Legends: Arceus to add it to your collection. Check the source games below for encounter details.

Heatran is not available as a wild encounter in this game.

Also found in:

  • At 600 BST, Heatran is built different. We rank it A-Tier. As a Legendary Pokemon, the raw stats back up the reputation. Best used as a wallbreaker.

  • Watch for Rhydon (Ground), Starmie (Water), and Blaziken (Fighting) when using Heatran. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Rhydon is the most dangerous since Ground moves deal 4x damage. Heatran has enough bulk to absorb a hit, but don't push the matchup. Pivot to a teammate that resists.

  • Heatran doesn't evolve. As a Legendary Pokemon, it stands on its own without an evolutionary line. It's a Fire/Steel type with 600 BST.

  • Heatran gets Flash Fire and Flame Body. But Flash Fire is the one that matters — it's the centerpiece of every viable set. Build around that. On wall sets, Flash Fire pairs with Heatran's base 106 Defense to absorb physical hits on the switch.

  • Heatran is leaning toward the special side (base 130 Sp. Atk). Tanky enough to absorb a few hits, too. But the speed tells the real story — base 77 Speed is workable — faster than some, slower than many. Fits the wallbreaker role.

  • Heatran appears in 14 games, including Platinum, HeartGold & SoulSilver, and Diamond & Pearl.

Since Diamond & Pearl, Heatran has appeared in 14 games. Legendary Pokemon like Heatran are usually found through story events or special post-game areas rather than random encounters.
