Between Technician and Fighting typing, Grapploct carves out a strong competitive niche. It boosts weaker moves to surprising damage levels, which gives it an edge most Pokemon in its stat range don't have. Only weak to Flying, Psychic, and Fairy.
Attack and Defense carry most of Grapploct's stat budget. Speed's the obvious dump stat. Tough to catch and yields 2 Attack EVs. Follows a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve.
A body made up of nothing but muscle makes the grappling moves this Pokémon performs with its tentacles tremendously powerful.
Searching for an opponent to test its skills against, it emerges onto land. Once the battle is over, it returns to the sea.
Grapploct Weakness
AvgFlying, Psychic, and Fairy-type moves hit Grapploct for super-effective damage. With 80 HP and balanced defenses, Grapploct can afford to eat a neutral hit or two.
Getting Grapploct requires knowing a specific move, not just grinding levels. The chain starts at Clobbopus. Breed this form to get Clobbopus eggs (average hatch time). Attack grew the most through evolution (+50 over Clobbopus), and Grapploct peaks at 480 total stats.
How to Evolve
Breed with Grapploct to get Clobbopus eggs easily using 51 partners from the Humanshape and Water1 egg groups. Notable egg moves include Circle Throw, Pain Split, Power-Up Punch and 3 more.
Start with max HP and Sp. Def EVs. Hardy nature gives Grapploct the right balanced lean, Sitrus Berry adds a one-time health recovery at low HP, and Limber works in the background. Octolock is the main damage option.

Without breeding, Grapploct misses out on Circle Throw and Pain Split. That's 6 egg moves adding depth that the base kit lacks. STAB comes from Superpower and Close Combat, with Normal and Water coverage and more rounding things out.

Step 2Grapploct ✓
Technician changes the entire equation for Grapploct. The 480 BST doesn't tell the full story. Ranked C-Tier as a support.
Watch for Aerodactyl (Flying), Espeon (Psychic), and Sylveon (Fairy) when using Grapploct. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB.
Clobbopus evolves into Grapploct after learning Taunt. Grapploct is the fully evolved form. At 480 BST, it's got solid stats to work with.
Technician is what you want on Grapploct. Every competitive set worth running is built with that ability in mind. The alternatives (Limber) work on paper but Technician is what makes Grapploct worth using.
Base 42 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. On offense, Grapploct is leaning toward the physical side (base 118 Attack). Defensively? Enough bulk to take a hit or two. Best used as a support.
Grapploct can be found in Legends: Z-A and Sword & Shield.
Grapploct joined the series in Sword & Shield and has been available in 2 titles so far. With 2 generations of appearances, it's established itself despite the later start.
