Attack and Defense carry most of Grapploct's stat budget. Speed's the obvious dump stat. Tough to catch and yields 2 Attack EVs. Follows a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve.
A body made up of nothing but muscle makes the grappling moves this Pokémon performs with its tentacles tremendously powerful.
Searching for an opponent to test its skills against, it emerges onto land. Once the battle is over, it returns to the sea.
Flying, Psychic, and Fairy moves hit Grapploct for super-effective damage. With 80 HP and balanced defenses, Grapploct can afford to eat a neutral hit or two.

Without breeding, Grapploct misses out on Circle Throw and Pain Split. That's 6 egg moves adding depth that the base kit lacks. STAB comes from Superpower and Close Combat, with Normal and Water coverage and more rounding things out.
Grapploct isn't available in the wild in Legends: Z-A. Start by transferring Clobbopus from Sword. The evolution path from Clobbopus to Grapploct is covered in the steps below.
No wild encounters for Grapploct. The 2-stage line runs through Clobbopus, which you can catch at solid rates from the locations below. Evolve through a special method once you've got the levels.

Step 2Grapploct ✓
Technician changes the entire equation for Grapploct. The 480 BST doesn't tell the full story. Ranked C-Tier as a wallbreaker.
Watch for Aerodactyl (Flying), Espeon (Psychic), and Sylveon (Fairy) when using Grapploct. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB.
Technician is what you want on Grapploct. Every competitive set worth running is built with that ability in mind. The alternatives (Limber) work on paper but Technician is what makes Grapploct worth using.
Base 42 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. On offense, Grapploct is a physical attacker with base 118 Attack. Defensively? Enough bulk to take a hit or two. Best used as a wallbreaker.
Grapploct's hidden ability is Technician. Strengthens moves of 60 base power or less to 1.5× their power. Better than the standard options for competitive play.
Grapploct joined the series in Sword & Shield and has been available in 2 titles so far. With 3 generations of appearances, it's established itself despite the later start.
