Between Technician and Fighting typing, Grapploct carves out a strong competitive niche. It boosts weaker moves to surprising damage levels, which gives it an edge most Pokemon in its stat range don't have. Only weak to Flying, Psychic, and Fairy.

Attack and Defense carry most of Grapploct's stat budget. Speed's the obvious dump stat. Tough to catch and yields 2 Attack EVs. Follows a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve.

Grapploct isn't available in the wild in Legends: Z-A. Start by transferring Clobbopus from Sword. The evolution path from Clobbopus to Grapploct is covered in the steps below.

  • Technician changes the entire equation for Grapploct. The 480 BST doesn't tell the full story. Ranked C-Tier as a wallbreaker.

  • Watch for Aerodactyl (Flying), Espeon (Psychic), and Sylveon (Fairy) when using Grapploct. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB.

  • Clobbopus evolves into Grapploct after learning Taunt. Grapploct is the fully evolved form. At 480 BST, it's got solid stats to work with.

  • Technician is what you want on Grapploct. Every competitive set worth running is built with that ability in mind. The alternatives (Limber) work on paper but Technician is what makes Grapploct worth using.

  • Base 42 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. On offense, Grapploct is a physical attacker with base 118 Attack. Defensively? Enough bulk to take a hit or two. Best used as a wallbreaker.

  • Grapploct can be found in Legends: Z-A and Sword & Shield.

Grapploct joined the series in Sword & Shield and has been available in 2 titles so far. With 2 generations of appearances, it's established itself despite the later start.
