Nothing fancy in Amaura's spread. It leans mixed with HP out front. And you'll get 1 HP EV per KO for it. Follows a medium-fast 1M XP curve.
This Pokémon was successfully restored from a fossil. In the past, it lived with others of its kind in cold lands where there were fewer predators.
Amaura is an ancient Pokémon that has gone extinct. Specimens of this species can sometimes be found frozen in ice.
Type-wise, Amaura takes extra damage from Fighting, Steel, Water, Grass, Ground, and Rock. Watch out for Fighting and Steel attacks, those deal 4x damage. The Rock/Ice typing picks up 4 resistances to work with.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 4x (Critical) | Fighting, Steel |
| 2x (Weak) | Water, Grass, Ground, Rock |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Normal, Ice, Poison, Flying |
Duraludon can KO Amaura with Flash Cannon (238-281%). Sinistcha's Shadow Ball hits Amaura for 51-59%. Hippowdon's Earthquake also KOs at 141-166%.

Moves
Most of Amaura's flexibility comes from TMs. Same-type output runs through Meteor Beam and Blizzard, but Normal and Ground and the rest of the TM pool push it from predictable to genuinely threatening.

The egg pool carries weight here. Aurora Veil and Discharge aren't available any other way for Amaura, and they meaningfully change what it threatens. Stack those on top of Meteor Beam and Blizzard for solid options.

At 362 BST, Amaura is firmly in pre-evolution territory. Evolve it into Aurorus before bringing it to any serious fight.
Amaura's biggest threats include Lucario (Fighting), Metagross (Steel), and Milotic (Water), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Lucario is the most dangerous since Fighting moves deal 4x damage. Grass, Ground, and Rock-type attackers are also a problem. With 6 weakness types, most competitive teams carry at least one counter.
Amaura gets Snow Warning and Refrigerate. But Snow Warning is the one that matters. It's the centerpiece of every viable set. Build around that.
Snow Warning is the hidden ability. It summons hail that lasts indefinitely upon entering battle. Worth hunting for if you want Amaura to compete at a higher level.
Amaura is leaning toward the special side (base 67 Sp. Atk). Speed tells the real story. Base 46 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go.
Since X & Y, Amaura has been obtainable in 6 games. A Generation 6 debut means a shorter history, but Amaura has appeared steadily across every generation since.
