While most trainers evolve Thwackey into Rillaboom immediately, the unevolved form has a niche with Eviolite boosting its defenses. 5 type weaknesses to keep in mind. Introduced in Gen 8. Needs some investment to avoid getting outsped.
Attack and Speed carry most of Thwackey's stat budget. Sp. Atk's the obvious dump stat. Tough to catch and yields 2 Attack EVs. Follows a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve.
The faster a Thwackey can beat out a rhythm with its two sticks, the more respect it wins from its peers.
When it’s drumming out rapid beats in battle, it gets so caught up in the rhythm that it won’t even notice that it’s already knocked out its opponent.
Thwackey Weakness
FragileThwackey's Grass typing leaves it vulnerable to Fire, Ice, Poison, Flying, and Bug moves. 4 resistances help offset the weaknesses. 5 weaknesses means you'll want teammates that can handle the coverage gaps.
Partway through Grookey's chain. Thwackey still has another evolution ahead before reaching Rillaboom. For breeding, average hatch time with a massive partner pool via two egg groups. So far, HP got the biggest boost (+20 from Grookey). The final form adds another 110 stats on top.
How to Evolve
U-turn keeps your team's momentum going. Thwackey doesn't need to stay in long, Terrain Extender provides extra utility and flexible EVs EVs make every visit count. Grassyglide threatens on the way out. Grassy Surge adds passive value.

Level-up moves are just the starting point for Thwackey. TMs unlock Normal and Dark coverage and more and turn a straightforward STAB kit around Leaf Storm and Solar Blade into something with actual range.

Tutor Moves
You'll want to breed for Fake Out and Growth on Thwackey. These egg moves aren't just nice to have. Combined with STAB from Solar Blade and Wood Hammer, they expand what Thwackey can actually threaten in practice.
Thwackey is meant to evolve into Rillaboom. At 420 BST, the stats aren't there for competitive play yet. Pre-evolution Pokemon rarely hold up against fully evolved threats.
Overgrow strengthens grass moves to inflict 1.5× damage at 1/3 max HP or less — that's the one you want on Thwackey. Grassy Surge is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses.
Base 80 Speed is workable — faster than some, slower than many. On offense, Thwackey is leaning toward the physical side (base 85 Attack). Defensively? Enough bulk to take a hit or two.
Thwackey can be found in Scarlet & Violet and Sword & Shield.
Thwackey joined the series in Sword & Shield and has been available in 2 titles so far. With 2 generations of appearances, it's established itself despite the later start.
