Mid-stage Pokemon like Dreepy rarely see competitive play outside of special formats. It's a waypoint on the road to Dragapult, which is where the real potential kicks in. One of the newer additions from Gen 8. Normal and Fighting moves can't touch it, which offsets the 5 weaknesses somewhat.
Dreepy's spread isn't flashy. Speed leads, HP trails, 1 stats clear the bar. Tough to catch and worth 1 Speed EV, on a slow 1.25M XP grind.
In the evening, groups of Dreepy will fly at high speeds over the ocean and poke at Pokémon in the water for fun.
It has a habit of biting at Clauncher even though it doesn’t feed on them. This is said to be vestigial behavior from when Dreepy was alive.
Dreepy Weakness
GoodIce, Ghost, Dragon, Dark, and Fairy-type moves hit Dreepy for super-effective damage. The upside? Normal and Fighting-type moves can't touch it at all. 6 resistances give it solid defensive coverage on top of that.
Dreepy is the start of a three-stage chain. It evolves into Drakloak first, then eventually reaches Dragapult. For breeding, takes forever to hatch with plenty of partners via two egg groups. The evolved forms gain up to 330 total stats over Dreepy.
How to Evolve
Start with a spread EV build EVs. Jolly nature gives Dreepy the right fast physical lean, Life Orb adds extra damage on every hit for a health trade, and Infiltrator works in the background. Sucker Punch is the main damage option.

Recommended Teammates
Without TMs, Dreepy's movepool is bare bones. With them, you get Dark and Bug coverage on top of Draco Meteor and Dragon Tail for STAB. The natural kit handles basics, but TMs are doing the real work.

Tutor Moves
Without breeding, Dreepy misses out on Confuse Ray and Curse. That's 7 egg moves adding depth that the base kit lacks. STAB comes from Dragon Tail and Astonish, with Dark and Bug coverage rounding things out.
Dreepy appears at moderate rates across 32 spots in mid-game routes. Sort by Best below if you want the highest rate, or Earliest if you want the quickest access point in your playthrough.
Best Locations
You'll find Dreepy across 32 walking encounters from Lv. 20-60, sorted by game progression. Earlier spots show up first so you can grab one as soon as it's reachable.
Dreepy sits at low spawn rates across 6 spots in endgame routes. Pick one from the sorted list and commit to it. Jumping between areas wastes more time than waiting in the right location.
Best Locations
6 walking encounters at Lv. 50-52 for Dreepy across Shield and Sword. A few locations are version-exclusive, so your copy of the game affects what's available.
Dreepy isn't fully evolved, so it's not built for competitive play. You'll want to evolve it into Drakloak to unlock its full potential. At 270 BST, it's a stepping stone rather than a team anchor.
Dreepy evolves into Drakloak at level 50. Dreepy is the base form in a 3-stage evolutionary line.
Clear Body prevents stats from being lowered by other Pokémon — that's the one you want on Dreepy. Cursed Body is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses. Infiltrator works too if your team needs something different.
Dreepy fills the balanced role. It's a physical attacker with base 60 Attack. Base 82 Speed is workable — faster than some, slower than many. And it's fragile — can't afford to take many hits.
Dreepy can be found in Scarlet & Violet and Sword & Shield.
Introduced in Sword & Shield, Dreepy has appeared in 2 games across 2 generations. Later debuts mean fewer total appearances, but it's been a consistent presence since its introduction.
