Mid-stage Pokemon like Dreepy rarely see competitive play outside of special formats. It's a waypoint on the road to Dragapult, which is where the real potential kicks in. One of the newer additions from Gen 8. Normal and Fighting moves can't touch it, which offsets the 5 weaknesses somewhat.

Dreepy's spread isn't flashy. Speed leads, HP trails, 1 stats clear the bar. Tough to catch and worth 1 Speed EV, on a slow 1.25M XP grind.

Pokedex Entries

After being reborn as a ghost Pokémon, Dreepy wanders the areas it used to inhabit back when it was alive in prehistoric seas.

Sword

If this weak Pokémon is by itself, a mere child could defeat it. But if Dreepy has friends to help it train, it can evolve and become much stronger.

Shield

Dreepy Weakness

Good

Ice, Ghost, Dragon, Dark, and Fairy-type moves hit Dreepy for super-effective damage. The upside? Normal and Fighting-type moves can't touch it at all. 6 resistances give it solid defensive coverage on top of that.

Dreepy is the start of a three-stage chain. It evolves into Drakloak first, then eventually reaches Dragapult. For breeding, takes forever to hatch with a decent partner pool via two egg groups. The evolved forms gain up to 330 total stats over Dreepy.

Best Build

No build content available for this Pokemon in Gen 8.

Try selecting a different game/generation filter, or check back later.

Without breeding, Dreepy misses out on Confuse Ray and Curse. That's 7 egg moves adding depth that the base kit lacks. STAB comes from Dragon Tail and Astonish, with Dark and Bug coverage rounding things out.

Dreepy sits at low spawn rates across 6 spots in endgame routes. Pick one from the sorted list and commit to it. Jumping between areas wastes more time than waiting in the right location.

Best Locations

  • Dreepy isn't fully evolved, so it's not built for competitive play. You'll want to evolve it into Drakloak to unlock its full potential. At 270 BST, it's a stepping stone rather than a team anchor.

  • Watch for Lapras (Ice), Aegislash (Ghost), and Dragapult (Dragon) when using Dreepy. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Dark and Fairy-type attackers are also a problem. With 5 weakness types, most competitive teams carry at least one counter.

  • Dreepy evolves into Drakloak at level 50. Dreepy is the base form in a 3-stage evolutionary line.

  • Clear Body prevents stats from being lowered by other Pokémon — that's the one you want on Dreepy. Cursed Body is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses. Infiltrator works too if your team needs something different.

  • Dreepy fills the balanced role. It's a physical attacker with base 60 Attack. Base 82 Speed is workable — faster than some, slower than many. And it's fragile — can't afford to take many hits.

  • Dreepy can be found in Scarlet & Violet and Sword & Shield.

Introduced in Sword & Shield, Dreepy has appeared in 2 games across 2 generations. Later debuts mean fewer total appearances, but it's been a consistent presence since its introduction.
