Wooper sits at the start of its evolution line — not yet at full power, but that changes fast. Most trainers push through to Quagsire as fast as possible. Known as the Water Fish Pokemon. Part of the Gen 2 roster.
Nothing fancy in Wooper's spread. It leans mixed with HP out front. And you'll get 1 HP EV per KO for it. Follows a medium-fast 1M XP curve.
This POKéMON lives in cold water. It will leave the water to search for food when it gets cold outside.
When it walks around on the ground, it coats its body with a slimy, poisonous film.
Wooper Weakness
GoodType-wise, Wooper takes extra damage from Grass. Watch out for Grass attacks, those deal 4x damage. Electric moves do nothing thanks to a full immunity. The Water/Ground typing picks up 4 resistances to work with.
- Dark and Steel types added — Fairy does not exist yet
- Moves are Physical or Special based on type, not per move
- Special stat split into Sp.Atk and Sp.Def
Wooper is the base form in a two-stage line leading to Quagsire. Check the evolution method below. Plenty of partners for breeding via two egg groups. Eggs are average hatch time. Evolving adds up to 220 stat points total.
How to Evolve
Breed Wooper easily with 66 breeding partners from the Ground and Water1 egg groups. Pass egg moves like Ancient Power, Body Slam, Safeguard to offspring.
Best Build
Gen 2 build content has limited support (no abilities).
Try selecting a different game/generation filter, or check back later.
The egg pool carries weight here. Ancient Power and Body Slam aren't available any other way for Wooper, and they meaningfully change what it threatens. Stack those on top of Earthquake and Surf for solid options.

high spawn rates in early-game water routes across 10 locations. Wooper's one of the easier catches on the list. Two different catch methods are in play here. Knock it out fast and save your time for harder targets.
Best Locations
You can catch Wooper through 10 surfing and walking encounters from Lv. 4-19, but availability differs between Gold and Silver. Some spots are exclusive to one version.
At 210 BST, Wooper is firmly in pre-evolution territory. Evolve it into Quagsire before bringing it to any serious fight.
Wooper's biggest threats include Venusaur (Grass), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Venusaur is the most dangerous since Grass moves deal 4x damage. Only 1 weakness means fewer dedicated counters to worry about. At base 15 Speed, Wooper won't outrun any of these threats so switching to a resist is usually the safer play.
Wooper can evolve into Quagsire and Paldean Clodsire depending on the method. Wooper is the base form in a 3-stage evolutionary line.
Wooper is a physical attacker with base 45 Attack. Fragile — can't afford to take many hits, too. But the speed tells the real story — base 15 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go.
Wooper appears in 17 games, including Gold & Silver, Crystal, and Ruby & Sapphire.
Available since Gold & Silver, Wooper appears in 17 games spanning 8 generations. Beyond its original form, it gained a Paldean form in Generation 9.
