While most trainers evolve Ursaring into Ursaluna immediately, the unevolved form can still contribute in the right matchup. Ghost moves can't touch it, and only a single type hits it super-effectively. Relies on priority moves or Scarf to keep up.
Attack and HP carry most of Ursaring's stat budget. Speed's the obvious dump stat. Moderately hard to find and yields 2 Attack EVs. Follows a medium-fast 1M XP curve.
In its territory, it leaves scratches on trees that bear delicious berries or fruits.
Ursaring Weakness
GoodFighting-type moves hit Ursaring for super-effective damage. The upside? Ghost-type moves can't touch it at all. With 90 HP and balanced defenses, Ursaring can afford to eat a neutral hit or two.
- Fairy type does not exist — Dragon has fewer checks
- Physical / Special split now per-move (introduced Gen IV)
Sitting between Teddiursa and Ursaluna, Ursaring is part of a chain that requires an evolution item. Not your typical level-up setup. So far, Attack got the biggest boost (+50 from Teddiursa). The final form adds another 50 stats on top.
How to Evolve
Breed with Ursaring to get Teddiursa eggs easily using 131 partners from the Ground egg group. Notable egg moves include Close Combat, Counter, Cross Chop and 9 more.
The moveset leans on Dark and Ground coverage to catch would-be counters. Flame Orb means self-burn for Guts activation for Ursaring, and max HP and Attack EVs make sure nothing walls it cleanly. Guts fills in the gaps.

Ursaring is meant to evolve into Ursaluna. At 500 BST, the stats aren't there for competitive play yet. Pre-evolution Pokemon rarely hold up against fully evolved threats.
Watch for Hitmonlee (Fighting) when using Ursaring. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Only 1 weakness means fewer dedicated counters to worry about.
Guts increases Attack to 1.5× with a major status ailment — that's the one you want on Ursaring. Unnerve is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses. Quick Feet works too if your team needs something different.
At base 55 Speed, it won't be moving first often. On offense, Ursaring is a physical attacker with base 130 Attack. Defensively? Enough bulk to take a hit or two. Best used as a wallbreaker.
Ursaring appears in 17 games, including Gold & Silver, Crystal, and Ruby & Sapphire.
Obtainable through an item-based evolution, Ursaring appears in 17 titles across 8 generations since Gold & Silver. The evolution method adds a barrier that wild-catchable Pokemon don't have.
