As a baby Pokemon, Togepi is mostly a stepping stone. It eventually becomes Togekiss, and that's where you want to end up. The Spike Ball Pokémon — cute, but not battle-ready. Introduced in Gen 2.
Defense and Sp. Def carry most of Togepi's stat budget. Attack's the obvious dump stat. Common in the wild and yields 1 Sp. Def EV. Follows a fast 800K XP curve.
It is considered to be a symbol of good luck. Its shell is said to be filled with happiness.
Togepi Weakness
GoodTogepi's Normal typing leaves it vulnerable to Fighting moves. It shrugs off Ghost-type attacks completely. Just 1 weak spot to worry about, which keeps teambuilding straightforward.
- Dark and Steel types added — Fairy does not exist yet
- Moves are Physical or Special based on type, not per move
- Special stat split into Sp.Atk and Sp.Def
This is the baby stage. Togepi grows into Togetic by leveling up. Want more? Breed the adults. Baby Pokemon sit in the Undiscovered egg group. The evolved forms gain up to 300 total stats over Togepi.
How to Evolve
Best Build
Gen 2 build content has limited support (no abilities).
Try selecting a different game/generation filter, or check back later.
The natural movepool does the job, but Foresight and Future Sight from the egg pool give Togepi something extra. Pair those with Double-Edge and Headbutt for STAB and coverage across 9 types for reach, and the kit fills out nicely.

Best Locations
Togepi is meant to evolve into Togetic. At 245 BST, the stats aren't there for competitive play yet. Pre-evolution Pokemon rarely hold up against fully evolved threats.
Watch for Hitmonlee (Fighting) when using Togepi. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Only 1 weakness means fewer dedicated counters to worry about. At base 20 Speed, Togepi won't outrun any of these threats so switching to a resist is usually the safer play.
Togepi evolves into Togetic by leveling up. Togepi is the base form in a 3-stage evolutionary line.
Base 20 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. On offense, Togepi is a special attacker with base 40 Sp. Atk. Defensively? Fragile — can't afford to take many hits.
Togepi appears in 17 games, including Gold & Silver, Crystal, and Ruby & Sapphire.
Available in 17 titles since its debut in Gold & Silver, Togepi spans 8 generations of Pokemon games. It's accessible through catching or hatching as a base form in most mainline games.
