As a baby Pokemon, Togepi is mostly a stepping stone. It eventually becomes Togekiss, and that's where you want to end up. The Spike Ball Pokémon — cute, but not battle-ready. Introduced in Gen 2.

Defense and Sp. Def carry most of Togepi's stat budget. Attack's the obvious dump stat. Common in the wild and yields 1 Sp. Def EV. Follows a fast 800K XP curve.

Its shell is said to be stuffed with happiness that it shares with kindhearted people.

Togepi Weakness

Good

Togepi's Fairy typing leaves it vulnerable to Poison and Steel moves. It shrugs off Dragon-type attacks completely. Just 2 weak spots to worry about, which keeps teambuilding straightforward.

Breadth over depth defines this movepool. Togepi won't stack one type's damage ceiling, but coverage across 11 types means it always has an effective option. Dazzling Gleam anchor the STAB core.

  • Togepi is meant to evolve into Togetic. At 245 BST, the stats aren't there for competitive play yet. Pre-evolution Pokemon rarely hold up against fully evolved threats.

  • Watch for Nidoking (Poison) and Scizor (Steel) when using Togepi. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Only 2 weaknesses means fewer dedicated counters to worry about. At base 20 Speed, Togepi won't outrun any of these threats so switching to a resist is usually the safer play.

  • Togepi evolves into Togetic by leveling up. Togepi is the base form in a 3-stage evolutionary line.

  • Hustle strengthens physical moves to inflict 1.5× damage, but decreases their accuracy to 0.8× — that's the one you want on Togepi. Super Luck is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses. Serene Grace works too if your team needs something different.

  • Base 20 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. On offense, Togepi is a special attacker with base 40 Sp. Atk. Defensively? Fragile — can't afford to take many hits.

  • Togepi appears in 17 games, including Gold & Silver, Crystal, and Ruby & Sapphire.

Available in 17 titles since its debut in Gold & Silver, Togepi spans 8 generations of Pokemon games. It's accessible through catching or hatching as a base form in most mainline games.
