When it is about to TACKLE, it whips its body repeatedly with its three long tails.

Tauros Weakness

Tauros is weak to Fighting. On the flip side, it's immune to Ghost-type moves entirely. Tauros's physical bulk (base 95 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.

FireRed & LeafGreen Tauros Best Moveset

Return is the safe click most turns. Choice Band locks Tauros into it but rewards with raw power at the cost of move flexibility. Jolly nature and max Attack and Speed EVs maximize that first hit. Intimidate helps on the margins.

The TM pool is where it gets interesting. Coverage across 10 types means almost nothing walls Tauros cleanly, with Hyper Beam and Thrash anchoring the STAB side. Matchup flexibility isn't a problem.

Tauros Guide

  • In FireRed & LeafGreen, Tauros looks average on paper at 490 BST. But Intimidate is why it sees play. Build around that and it pulls its weight. C-Tier sweeper on our tier list. Earthquake with Choice Band is the standard set.

  • In FireRed & LeafGreen, Tauros's biggest threats include Machamp (Fighting), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Only 1 weakness means fewer dedicated counters to worry about.

  • Tauros gets Intimidate, Anger Point, and Sheer Force. But Intimidate is the one that matters. It's the centerpiece of every viable set. Build around that. With base 110 Speed, Intimidate gives Tauros an edge before opponents can react.

  • Tauros is a physical attacker with base 100 Attack. Enough bulk to take a hit or two, too. Speed tells the real story. Base 110 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. Fits the sweeper role.

  • For FireRed & LeafGreen, the core moveset is Earthquake, Hiddenpowerghost, Return, and Double Edge. Earthquake leads at 25% usage. Return provides reliable STAB damage.

Game Availability

Available since Red & Blue, Tauros appears in 20 games spanning 10 generations. Beyond its original form, it gained a Paldean form in Generation 9.
