Scatterbug sits at the start of its evolution line — not yet at full power, but that changes fast. Most trainers push through to Vivillon as fast as possible. Known as the Scatterdust Pokemon. Introduced in Gen 6.
An unusually even spread gives Scatterbug flexibility. Defense barely edges ahead. But Sp. Def isn't far off. Easy to catch and follows a medium-fast 1M XP curve. Yields 1 Defense EV.
Any poison this Pokémon takes in is converted into a black powder and secreted. That’s why Scatterbug can eat poisonous leaves and roots.
This Pokémon scatters poisonous powder to repel enemies. It will eat different plants depending on where it lives.
Scatterbug Weakness
AvgScatterbug is weak to Fire, Flying, and Rock-type moves. Standard number of weaknesses for the Bug typing.
Three stages ahead. Scatterbug grows into Spewpa, then pushes on to Vivillon. Check the evolution methods below. For breeding, quick to hatch with no compatible partners via one egg group. Evolving adds up to 211 stat points total.
How to Evolve
Breed Scatterbug easily from the Bug egg group.
Scatterbug runs a standard defensive wall set. Bold nature with max HP and Defense EVs shapes the build, while Charcoal brings extra utility. Compoundeyes supports the kit from the background.

Not a lot to pick from. Scatterbug gets Bug STAB for same-type damage, and Normal coverage rounds things out. You're building around what's available rather than choosing from a deep bench.

Scatterbug is meant to evolve into Spewpa. At 200 BST, the stats aren't there for competitive play yet. Pre-evolution Pokemon rarely hold up against fully evolved threats.
Scatterbug's biggest threats include Volcarona (Fire), Talonflame (Flying), and Aerodactyl (Rock), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. At base 35 Speed, Scatterbug won't outrun any of these threats so switching to a resist is usually the safer play.
Scatterbug evolves into Spewpa at level 9. Scatterbug is the base form in a 3-stage evolutionary line.
Shield Dust is the go-to ability for Scatterbug. It protects against incoming moves' extra effects. Its hidden ability Friend Guard can work in specific setups. Compound Eyes is the other option — pick based on what your team needs.
Base 35 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. On offense, Scatterbug is a physical attacker with base 35 Attack. Defensively? Fragile — can't afford to take many hits.
Scatterbug appears in 6 games, including X & Y, Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire, and Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon.
Scatterbug joined the series in X & Y and has been available in 6 titles so far. With 4 generations of appearances, it's established itself despite the later start.
